Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

my seedlings are doing great, I now have some in front of a bedroom window, they are all doing well, as you can see it is raining, one of them is now 4' tall, no sign of a Y how long will it take

Very nice. Good healthy looking plants.

Most of my US seedlings have Y'd at around 5-6 foot and some even taller. This year was the exception as I had Y's from 2 and 3 ft. all the way to 6 and 7 ft. I've not had a lot of seedlings that have Y'd in the house over the winter. Probably because I don't have really good light for them. I guess that is okay because I couldn't handle dozens and dozens of them growing big in the house. I'll save the growing for outside, hopefully.

well Brugie I have lots of light so I am just letting them grow, this one grew pretty fast, I have another one that has Varigated leaves and it is about 3' tall and no Y yet, but all the tag sais was Varigated?

Looking great!

It takes awhile. I am not so sure it matters how tall the plant is but how old it is!

Would you consider making a seedling rack? Mine just just love it!! It is fast and easy and really not to expensive at all.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

sure kell how do you do that

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Poppysue was the one that let me know. I just love mine and hope to have another soon!

Doris, are all of your brugs grown from seed by you? I guess I have a question that I just thought of. If you have a cutting from a seedling, and that seedling hasn't been named, is it still a seedling or a cutting? LOL! I think being up late last night has made me dumber than usual. LOL!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Brugie some are from my seeds, and the tall ones are from cuttings

I purchased a sturdy plastic shelf unit from Wal-Mart for $8.95 it has four shelves, that would each hold several seedlings, shelf is 14 inches high 13" deep and 21" wide, I purchased clear plastic and made a cover with a wrap around opening, with the lights it is just like a mini greenhouse, temp stays right around 75- 78
( made small hole in the shelves to fasten the lights)
this is befor the lights

Kareoke, what a nifty idea. I have seedlings all over the windowsills in my Florida room. The windows are double paned, so I hope cold don,t get them, but the mini greenhouse would be easy to make. Carol

nancyjean you could add a couple of florecent lights that have the warm bulb, would help keep them a little warmer

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh, I saw your plants on the window sill! That looks great. I was told to have both a cool fluorescent and a warm one to cover the light spectrum. I do not know if that is necessary, but my plants sure love it under them.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

I use the warm and cool light combo in the mini greenhouses I have and they have worked great.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

kell the ones are on my window sill because i ran out of room in both the mini greenhouses :) and I do use one cool and one warm bulb.
as far as the age of my plants that are tall I do not know, but they do have a lot of nubs where limbs have been taken off, does this mean they could bloom befor a Y.

this is/was my puter room, as you can see I am now sharing :)

Hate to show my ignorance LOL --but here goes. What do you all mean by a cool bulb and a warm one? I looked at a box of replacement bulbs I just bought and it has 'cool white' written on it. So I should now go look for a box that says 'warm white' and use one from each box in the shop light fixture..right? Thanks much!!

mjtip, mine says cool white, and Plant Grow, that is my warm one

Thanks, kareoke, I'll look for the Plant Grow.

By the way, you do have some good looking plants there and I like the shelf/lights set-up. Will have to look for that at WM also.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

mjtip, the shelf is from Wal-Mart but i did the lights and plastic, cheap way to go.

central Arkansas, AR(Zone 7b)

OK, I think I see how you did it...and I like cheap! Thanks again!!

Kareoke -- If you use the plant grow light bulbs, you don't need a cool fluorescent too. U can use
one cool and one warm to replace the plant grow bulbs. Also, you are probably going to want to find a way to attach lights to each shelf on your Wal-Mart unit. Those plants aren't getting enough light to thrive through the short days of winter. Just my personal observation -- I would hate for you to lose those plants after all the hard work you've put into them to date :) Gretchen

Gretchen they have lights now, this picture was when I first tried the plants for height, thanks
