Eve's Needle (Austrocylindropuntia subulata f. monstrosa)

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

I've heard a few debates on how to tell the difference between A. subulata & A. subulata f. monstrose.
And none were conclusive (so far). Would you per chance know? , becauase I have 3 A. subulatas from different sources. What does the non-monstrose form look like. The one on that page look the same as the one on this page.

Also, I don't consider the Cristate form a synonym of the Monstrose form.
Monstrose is a multiplying of the ribs, wilst Cristate is a multiplying of the apex, (creating a ribbon appearance). both completely different formations.

Sorry, again, just going by what the folks at Huntington are saying... but perhaps I should change it to the cristate form... though I am not seeing at evidence of that either.

I'll try and re-phrase the question.

1. Compare these plants http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/57996/index.html
with this plant, and (I think) theres no difference.
What I was asking was, If your pict and those other picts are 'monstrose'? Then what does the Non-monstrose look like? Or vice-versa.

2. On this link http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/70990/index.html
Theres a synonym listed (Opuntia subulata Cristata). Which (I think) shouldn't be listed as a synonym.
And I agree this photo is not of a crested plant.

I have a Crested A. subulata. I hadn't got around to taking a photo until now.
Here'tis.

OK, I finally found a side-by-side comparison of the 'regular & monstrosa'.
http://public.fotki.com/gunnarantonsen/my_cactus_collection/opuntia/opuntia_subulata/
It looks like the monstrose form has small emerging nubs (or new segments) coming from the areoles, less leaves, tuberclers are not well defined, and dosen't grow as tall (sort-of a miniature form)
So, when we look back on this page
http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/57996/index.html
I see that all the photos are of the Non-monstrose type.
Except the top two, which I would ID as the monstrosa form.

And this photo of yours looks like the non-monstrosa type also.
