My Brug Has Insects, Help Me Pls

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Although this will sound like I am a complete fool, I'm really not. I'm usually very careful about bring new plants into the area where my other plants reside. If I find one had any kind of insects, it goes into the trash. Therefore my experience with harmful insects is almost non-existent.

I attended a Roundup earlier and was so sick, I just put the new plants on my potting bench, neglecting to do my normal check.. you guessed it I have thousands of tiny white oblong looking insects on my BRUG, of all the plants. The one plant my DH loves.

If someone can just suggest what they might be I can take it from there by researching DG and the Internet.

If they don't move fast or at all, they could be mealy bugs. I guess there could be some kind of aphid that could be white too, but I'm not sure about them.

Judy -- can you give a little better description? Are they flying, crawling, walking insects? Are they maybe aphids? That's what they sound like to me.

Insecticidal soap usually gets rid of them for me... First we have to figure out what you have...

Are mealy bugs kinda fuzzy? This things although so very tiny appears to be sleek. I bet you are right about it being an aphid. I'll search for a picture of one and see.

Thank you so much for your assistance.

Yes, Judy. Mealybugs have a "fuzy" appearance.

How large? I've been fighting whiteflies lately. I didn't have them all summer then out of nowhere they were on everything. I've been spraying with Safer and Neem and they seem to be about gone. Everything gets a good cleaning before it goes into the gh.

It's not a mealy bug and I've been researching mites and aphids, doesn't appear to be either of those.

Silverleaf and sweetpotato whitefly pupae - is a possibility.

In a panic,
- I first sprayed with alcohol, didn't appear to disturb at all.
- Sprayed with soapy water, definite decrease in number but they were coming back
- Dipped the leaves in soapy water, definite decrease but they were coming back
- Sprayed with Sevin Liquid & put granular systemic poison in soil - could not detect any left on plant when it dried, oops now there are a few, then a few more.

Can they be coming from the soil and I just need to take all the soil off and rinse the plant, roots and all with soapy water?

Here is the best picture we could get.

I was successful is getting rid of whatever it was, well at least for now. I'm watching it like a hawk.

Strange that the Brug was in the middle of a lot of other plants, M.O.T, begonias, Philodendron, etc. but none of them have the insects?? I'll have to check out host plants on the internet.

Thank all of you for responding to my call for assistance.
