I got 2 brugs in trades. one is frosty pink, other one don't know. has "fuzzy" leaves and its supposed to be double white. I planted them in ground in zone 9a and putting out leaves like crazy. can they stay there? do I fertilize at this late date? thanks for your comments.
new to brugs
They should be okay. Even if you get a frost that would kill the tops, they should come up from the roots, but unless it gets pretty darned cold, there should be no problem.
glad to hear frosty is growing :)
howdy jeremiah. I guess I should have just emailed you. My plant is lovely! Is it going to bloom this late? I've noticed a house near me that had blooms. Will I have any? Do I fertilize now? I've read where brugs are heavy feeders. My common sense says NO, to treat it like other plants going into dormancy period, but I would like your input. I am new to brugs. Hope all's well w/ you.
I trimmed my mother plummie to where it's just a 3' stick and went ahead and planted inground. I was thrilled yesterday to discover it had these little knub-like things--leaves starting to come out! of course, I'm in z9a, so no great surprise there. I wouldn't even have to think about covering until late dec. (if we continue to be spoiled by these incredibly mild winters)
Do you ever get temps below 45 degrees. If it stays warm and sunny all year in your area I would be tempted to fertilize a little and it might just bloom. If you do get temps below 45 I would probably just let it go until spring. My plumie doesn't have roots yet but I haven't given up. I have it on the hot table and I am now waiting patiently :) If you have any other questions just ask.
Jeremiah
Jeremiah, when I get a change I will do so more research on root development. I don't know that you're gonna see any root action til next spring, but I don't know for sure. I will defer to plumie experts. All I can say w/ certainty is that this plant requires very little care yet it delights you with wonderful blooms (well, they do need bloom booster fert) in the summer. ciao for now
