About 10 days ago I got a second female degu after giving up on getting one thru local ads. I named her Marion as soon as I knew she was available. She is much younger and smaller than Cheryl so they are easy to tell apart. Remember that there is almost no variation in the coloration and markings of degus. They all look like short eared, long tailed very small but fatter baby wild cottontail rabbits.
Last night I finally got around to checking my email and discovered that the last day of my ad on our server's ISell service someone had offered me a free female degu. She is about 6 months old. Her name is Rachel. I'm thinking she is just a tad darker on her head than Cheryl but will likely be identical to Marion.
I tried marking Rachel with some wild yellow nail polish but it wasn't visable on the back hair and Cheryl immediately removed it from her ear so that was a fluke. It also probably made her very ill from the fumes which I deeply regret. She seems much more gentle than I was told she would be. I think she is so thankful for the attendtion and care.
Jack wasn't too happy about the degu population explosion but seems to have accepted it by this morning. Last night he wasn't feeling well and Cheryl kept hitting the bedroom door with her run about ball finally knocking it open. Those things can be noisy on hardwood floors. Our friend's 15 year old boy was here & kept yelling at her to stop but that only created more noise. Poor Jack, what that man has to put up with around this house!
