Overwintering Brugs

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

I brought my large Brug into the basement for the winter. I read somewhere on here they need a dormant period. Should I water and provide light during the winter or let it go dormant? If so when do I start watering?

I am just now bringing mine inside, some I keep growing upstairs with heat and light, they bloom through the winter. Older plants, I put in basement, with only 1 small window for light, don't water, until they start losing leaves, then I only water maybe once a month, or less, do NOT overwater, just enough to keep roots from drying out completely. This year, I am trying two floresceent lights in basement above them, with timer to be on 9:00-9:00. Will let you know how they do, I imagine they will not go completely dormant, but will keep growing. Basement is always 62 degrees.

Hibiscus: Your brugs most likely are growing well. I've grown a brug under shoplights probably 14 - 16 hr. day during the winter last year. The plants flowered twice with a series of three flowers each time. My basement temps
were on the average between 55 - 60 degrees fahrenheit.

Yes, brugs grew very well in basement, then early Feb., they got aphids and spidermites, can't get them outside fast enough. Have sprayed with Neem, Bayer Systemic, now, I finally used Avid, which I like to save for final push. They lost lot of leaves, but still alive. Upstairs all are fine. Pic of brugs in basement in November.
