H.G. doesn't seem to like the cold. The color of the flower is mottled and the trendils are shrived. It is also having trouble dropping it's skirt.

Patricia...from what I have been hearing, you are fortunate to have a bloom look this good! Maybe when it warms up later in the day, it will get even better. Looks good to me!
We are suppose to get warmer throughout the week. I am hoping for some prettier blooms, but I do feel fortunate that it bloomed at all.
I thought it was taking days for mine to bloom the one and only bloom this year. Your plant looks very good and it is encouraging to see more than one bud that is holding on. I hope it really shows off for you Patricia.
Mine is a goner because it has only set buds and has not had one bloom in 3 years. This one sure does not like to bloom for most of us and I have no more patience with it. I am glad that you are getting blooms and I see many more buds that are getting close to opening all the way.
Shirley , I am just hoping that it all buds get a chance to open. Since it bloomed this year in morning sun afternoon shade, next year I am going to try it in full sun and see how it does. I will probably stick another one in afternoon shade since that worked this year. I had cut it almost completely down and then overwintered the roots this last year because I was moving. I am going to try it from a cutting above the Y on the branch that is blooming now and see if that incourages it to bloom earlier in the season.
Mine is gone. I still hope you have great luck with it. We have heard in the past that this one loves it hot and handles neglect. Would it be something if it loved the shade a being pampered? I will keep my fingers crossed that you find the right combination of treatment to get this one to show off.
Last year I had it planted in full sun and it kept dropping it's buds. This year it get's sun from about 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. so I will try it both way's.
You are super lucky to get this Brug to bloom! HG still hasn't bloomed for me yet and its been 2 yrs!
I am going to try one more year. I just hate giving up on it.
Wow! Congratulations Patricia! One of the few, proud HHG bloom holders!
I have told myself more than once that mine is gonna be a goner but i'm glad that it hasn't come to that yet. Finally after almost 2 years of growing it and having hundreds of buds to drop, some of them already out of the calyx I have 2 flower almost 100% open.
The first one has begun to drop the second skirt and the third skirt is visable. The color is starting to change but I don't kow if it will turn completely or not. The second bloom is just starting to open the first skirt and the plants has a lot more buds on it.
I have just within the past 2 days reinstalled my camera software back into the computer so i'll try and get a picture of the bloom to post here if it doesn't drop on me. I've found that when you get buds on this plant and brag about them they tend to fall off almost immediately!! This poor plant is a sight for sore eyes though it has lost about 99.9% of it's leaves and just looks like a stick bush with 2 blooms on it.
It looks beautiful to me, Patricia!!!
Congrats !! Catsmeow, it kind of feels like giving birth haha. You baby and baby this brug. and finally the big payoff.
LOL Patricia! Now we all know your list! :o) And special ones from a man... that narrows things down a bit! How fun!
The brug looks beautiful.
It's nice to see it bloom. All you ever hear about HG is negative comments and people culling it out of their collections. Great Job!! I guess I will keep it another year :)

It looks pretty nice to me - and your plant is very healthy with lots of buds. You must be doing something right!
I am trying to get a pic to post of mine. As I mentioned earlier I reinstalled the camera software,I did take the pics and they did turn out okay, now it's just a matter of me finding them and attaching them here.
For some reason the camera setup and the way I download the pics is different now and I can't find the pictures. Guess that'll give me something to do on my 2 days off.
Gosh Patricia, yours is so green and healthy. I have several and they had a hard time in the hoophouse last winter. The stems got all icky and still are! I have had buds but they fell off. I think I will take a cutting from the top and let it grow inside this winter and try one more year. Your flower is so pretty! So very pretty!
okay here goes a pic of my hg bloom. Don't laugh I know it's not the best but hey I tried!!! this pic was taken at 5:30am this morning.
I looked at the bloom again when I got in from work which was at 3:30pm eastern time and the third skirt is dropping in my bloom and it has begun to change colors now. There is about a half inch or more of space between the first and second skirts .
Now that i'm starting to see flowers on this plant I may have to rethink if I want to trash it so soon or give it one more chance to prove itself.
I would give it another shot if you got blooms this year. I am still watching and hoping that the skirts drop down on mine.
Thanks Kell . I let mine go dormant in the garage last year and then brought it out early Spring. I am still trying to decide if I want to overwinter it again this year or start new cuttings.
