Information on this hoya

Brownsville, KY(Zone 6a)

Has anyone ever heard of this hoya - H. species Rumphii 3751 ?

I looked in The Hoyan - there seems to be a H. rumphii Blume but whether it is in the trade or not, I can't tell from what is written. This would be a good question for Chris Burton...perhaps you could write to her TheHoyan@bellsouth.net and ask her. Do you have it?...where did it come from? Does it have any other initials or numbers with it? Do you have a picture? Sorry...no help here :~(

Carol,
No, I do not have it or have a picture of it. It is one that I heard about from someone in Florida. When I did a search for it, I could not find any information. Thought perhaps it went by another name, too.

Well, if it is masquerading Ms. Burton would most likely know...she keeps on top of it. Unfortunately I cannot ask her... You might try looking on the sales list for Paul Shirley...his numbers are in groups of 4 I think...and he might sell it and the name got twisted around a bit.

Let me know when/what you find out, please.

I may still have the plant. When I find it again I'll let the group know. I believe it is one with very small leaves about one inch in length, now this is just from memory. Norma

Cicada...I read that Ms. Burton gave you some information on it....can you share?

Carol,

Here is the information I received from Ms. Burton.

"There is a Hoya rumphii, but it does not have a number as part of its name. That number has to be an invoice number of some Hoya dealer or that of someone who has collected in the wild. Several different species have been sold by know-not sellers, mislabeled as H. rumphii. As far as I have been able to tell, there is no hoya species in circulation anywhere that can be accurately identified as H. rumphii. One that I obtained turned out to be H. verticillata. Another one turned out to be H. inconspicua."

She asked if I could send a picture (both foliage and flowers) to use in making an educated guess. "I can already guess pretty accurately that you do not have H. rumphii, a poorly described species dating from the year 1826, which has had taxonomists baffled ever since."

Thanks so much. That is good information to know.

Carol
