I got home from the plant swap today to find this guy in the garden. I think he's a Pipevine Swallowtail, but I have no idea what sort of plant a Pipevine is, can anyone help?
Pipevine?
My book says that the Pipevine Swallowtail, feeds its caterpillars chiefly on pipevines, Dutchman's Pipe Aristolochia macrophylla or Virginia Snakeroot Aristolochia serpentaria

Thank-you Kennedyh. I don't think I've ever seen one, looks a bit strange, but its a beautiful butterfly!
Wow Okus! That's a lovely butterfly. I wish I could see something like that around here! :-)

They have an elecctric blue patch on the other side of the wings too but he wouldn't keep still with them open. LOL
