Coleus, Flame Nettle, Painted Nettle 'Kong™ Series Scarlet' (Solenostemon scutel
Tell me where I can get my hands on this plant. Any plant that grows money I want it.
Kidding aside:
Your plant is really beautiful, great colors.
What a great idea to use the dollar so that the leaf edges show up. I never would have thought to do this.
The point was the leaf is as wide as the dollar is long.
SUGARWEED:
In the right hand corner of my picture is that the same as yours. Mine wasn't nearly as big as your.
This was my DH's favorite flower bed this year. This was taken in Sept. and they still look the same. These are a great bunch of flowers to have, I really love all the colors.

2pugs, are you taking cuttings to over winter? I am, these will be $3. ea. at WalMart in the spring.
SUGARWEED;
Tell me what I need to do. I haven't had to much experience with gardening, just getting started. But I am willing to learn.
First take your forefinger and your thumb and pinch off every little flowerhead. This is why its called a green thumb. DO THAT FIRST!
Gather up all those little 4" plastic pots you can find, and the carrier if you have some. Fill with potting soil and dampen.
Buy the smallest package of rooting hormone you can find. It will last forever.
Get your sissors wipe them with alcohol or clorox. Do this every so often in case one of the plants has a virus or something.
Start with each little branch and cut just below the second or third pair of leaves. Snip all but the top leaves off. Dip that area that had the bottom 2 leaves in rooting hormone. Shake off excess in packet. Poke hole in soil and put your cutting in. Firm soil around it and keep in filtered light and damp, but not wet.
You can put several in a large pot also, but I just like having them ready togo. When you do this in the summer it makes your plants bushier and multiplies your investment also. These I have are sun friendly, but did get droopy in the afternoon sun in August and September. They are beautiful in mass plantings and I plan on having enough plant masses in the spring.Sidney
Any questions?
Shoot , Just do it the old fashioned way ......
put your cuttings (with large leafs removed or cut in half )
in a 'glass' with 2 or 3 inches of water , in a bright window , no direct sun .
They will root in a few days and can stay there indefinately.
Pinch back to keep a decent shape and change the water when needed.
I learned to do this before i was school age.
This works for Perilla too.
As you can tell I grew up watching Momma pinch, snip , cut & root anything she wanted to save.
Good Luck,
Shirley in Smalltownrednecktractorville , WI

Good Mornig (((Tazzy)))
;-P
Scooterbug, I travel in my work, so often would either get rot in the water, or they would get neglected dry. I was betting someone would come along and say go to hyperlink xyz, and hoping I could learn more. Your way is excellent too if you have a sane, normal life, not like mine.
Shirley, that sounds like a place I'd like to live, but in Texas or Florida.

Sugarweed and scooterbug,
Thanks for the great advice on cuttings....very straight-forward.
Shannon
Thanks for the lesson on saving cutting for next year. I like the ideal of them becoming bushier and multiplying. I know when I planted my bed it seemed like it took forever for the plants to get bushy, I am going to try both methods I do have a lot of 4" pots (been buying everytime I find them on sale), and I already have a bottle of miracal-gro Fast Root rooting Hormone. I do like the ideal of rooting in water. Then after they get rooted I can plant them in 4" pots. Thanks abunch Sugarweed and Scooterbug.

SUGARWEED: I met to ask if you wanted to cut an extra cutting of your Flame Nettle, Painted Nettle 'Kong", I would love to have a start of it. I would be able to do sase or a trade of one of my coleus that I have in my picture. I am going to Houston on the 4th and returning on the 8th. Going to the quilt show plus visiting with son and DIL and 19 month old grandbaby.
I am going outside know and take a bunch of cutting. Just let me know.
Linda
A tall water glass of 5 or 6 cuttings can go for about 2 weeks.
I have not experienced rot at all. However,
I would suggest you use well or bottled Spring Water,
as I do not personally know how chlorinated water would effect them.
It's almost like they form a mini-zone being all together in the glass.
It must be glass not plastic.
Money does grow on trees! Or coleus in this case..
