Fritillaria

Ocean Springs, MS(Zone 8b)

Lowe's had these beautiful bulbs today for $5.98 each. What a deal!!!
I had ordered them before and paid $10 each for them.
Well, I have heard they are difficult in this zone. I just hope to see one bloom once and I'll be thrilled!! Last time, I put them in a pot, individually, and they each sprouted, and did ok for awhile. Then, in spring, I put them in the ground, after being told they needed to be in the ground, with gravel in the hole. Well, I never saw them again.
Anyone in zone 8 grow these successfully???
I am thinking I may put them in a pot again with mostly sand and peat, as I have read that they are native to Iran.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Janet--Did you put your Frits in a pot? After reading your post, I put mine in two pots and set them outside....hope they will come up. Nothing yet. t.

Don't let them freeze!!

Depends on the species, some species require different cultivation to others. Do you have it's full name?

B. Should I put them in the Garage? t.

Well, mine did not sprout at all. possibly rotted, not sure. I didn't water but once a week.

With Frit. Imperialis you have to make sure that they do not have any black/brown spots on them. This is fusarium and they WILL totally destroy the bulb.
