More bug help...

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I have attempted several times to photo this insect, but because of it's color, new brug, leaf green, I have not been able to do so. When it's out in the daytime, it won't photo because it cannot be seen on the brug. At night, I cannot find it. Originally, I thought it was a green potato bug, but I looked up potato bugs and, apparently, I was totally incorrect as to what a potato bug looks like, I've never seen a bug like the potato bug photo. The bug or insect that I have, is light, bright green, with long antennas over it's eyes, short-ish, crimped legs, a 'shell' or hard 'covering' and it flies. I've looked/searched for such a bug or insect. Please, help me find out what it is. TIA!!! Sherry

How large an insect? Is it doing any damage to any of your plants?

Need more info first. Size and eating habit will help a lot.

Marc (tanks, Brugie for your list, LOL), I wish I could tell you. Problem is, I just learned about 5 minutes ago that I have Asian Lady Beetles. Another identification problem is that I've recently had a beating wind/rain storm, with hail, including limb, acorn, stick damage. So, what I'm seeing could be any of that, I suppose. In addition to leaves that might have had all the other stuff, I have leaves that have been really chewed, holes in leafs, limp leafs, dropping leafs, buds, you name it, I got it and I don't have a clue if my damage is due to insects/bugs or the elements. I'd put my money, mostly, on the insects/bugs. You are a doll to help me, Marc!!!!!! Waddayathing??

Well first off Asian lady beetles (lady bugs) are a beneficial insect....they eat tons and tons of aphids so don;t you be killing those :-)

I'll keep looking through my insect resources and see what if anything I can find for you.

Marc, I will be eternally grateful, you are truly a sweetie!!!! I've searched for two days and I cannot find this bug/insect. FWIW, my local garden gurus tell me the Asian Lady Beetles are not good, also, Brugie mentioned tonight that she is being overrun with them too. On one of my insect sprays, it says, for 'Lady Beetles', do you think that's the same as Asian Lady Beetles???? Some kinda way, I think it might, because they do not really resemble Lady Bugs, they are a different color, different body shape, and I don't remember Lady Bugs flying like they do. Marc, PLEASE let me know if you find out anything. I'm going to ask the director of the county co-op to lunch tomorrow, to see if I can have them identified there. Thanks!!!!!!!!! Sherry

Sherry is this the bug u are referring to http://www.uky.edu/Agriculture/Entomology/entfacts/veg/ef311.htm , i call them cuke beetles. hope the photo will help u identify them. these are pesky bugs that are attracted to datura plants. they do lots of damage on brug leaves and buds.

Shoot, MaVie, I was just sure you won the prize, ***me***, spending a week with you, selecting all the beautiful brugs I would take home, but, no, (((((GONG))))), that isn't the bug. This bug is light green, zero brown, gold or stripes, solid, light green...

I'm thinking you might have some stink bugs. They certainly are green, have antenna and crimped legs. Here is a picture of one from Google Images. If this isn't it, I don't know what it could be.

WOW, Shirley you win!!! What does a stink bug do to plants and what should I use to get rid of it???? TIA!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sherry, I really don't know what they do, but judging from their color, I'd say they must be eating some part of the plant. I've had some, but not enough to worry about spraying. Maybe a search would come up with something.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Yeah!!! Glad the mini mystery is solved. I have those on and off in my gardens....never known them to do enough damage to worry about. I suppose in large numbers they could..............................

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Marc, I have tons of them, or I did yesterday - after I learned what they are, I went out this am and cannot find a single one!! Maybe their antlers were burning and they moved on to another garden, ha!!! Thanks to all of you for your help!!!
