My garden is a flurry of activity this afternoon...Another white seedling, blooming for the first time. Too bad its white. Its a huge plant with 18 inch leaves and loads of buds and blooms...

We are supposed to be in the mid to upper seventies tomorrow so I guess that means the Asian Lady Beetles will be back hot and heavy again. Nice picture Gretchen. You take great close ups.

Brugie, I had NO idea you have Asian Lady Beetles!! While I was researching the green bug that is plaguing my garden, I learned that I also have Asian Lady Beetles, and, doggies, I thought it was a LadyBug, I even asked about it on this forum. What are you using for them??? I think, next year, that I will go 100% for toxins (that's a funny, but flame away if you wish, lol)

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Do you guys have a photo of this bug...I have one that I don 't know what it is & it looks like a lady bug, almost...but green with stripes...well, after looking at the photo...not exactly green...more like yellow and black! Any guesses???

that is the dreaded cucumber beetles i was referring to. daturas seemed to be a magnet to those pesky bugs! they are the very reason why idid not plant datura this year. they ruin brug leaves and flowers.

Gretchen very lovely brug u got there. brugs i grow are also loaded with blooms.

Thanks Shirley -- That doesn't sound like fun! I'm not sure if what we have are Asian or American LOL...we have very few of them whatever they are.

Margie, is it a firefly? How big is it?

Thanks Shirley,

Never too old to learn new stuff, now I know what causes the strange odor from Lady Beatles.
'bleeding at the knees' Ouch! I feel their pain.

They can be a nuisance at times but I would never spray them.

I hate those Asian Lady bugs ... they will bite. Have not seen many here this year yet .... last year I spent all winter sucking them up with the vacuum.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

These Asian lady beetles are harmful and should be killed or am I reading this wrong..???

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

(Benefits) ...............Pests Attacked
Many species of injurious soft-bodied insects such as aphids, scales, and psyllids, including pecan aphids, red pine scale, balsam twig aphids, and pine bark adelgid.

Pesticide Susceptibility
Pesticides should not be used for controlling populations of H. axyridis. The best technique for managing lady beetles is first to prevent their entry into houses and other buildings by sealing cracks and openings around windows, doors, siding, and utility pipes with a quality silicone or silicone-latex caulk. Similarly, repair door and window screens or other openings to the outdoors using regular window screening (about 18 X 16 mesh size). If beetles still gain entry into living spaces, they should be removed using a broom and dustpan, or vacuum cleaner, and released outdoors. When using a broom and dustpan, gently collect the beetles to avoid alarming them. If alarmed, they may discharge a yellow fluid that can stain walls, paint, and fabrics, and that has an unpleasant odor. All lady beetles do this reflex bleeding when alarmed. The blood comes out of the leg joints.

Gretchen, your white seedling is beautiful, does it smell good too?? I love your close up and I know what you mean about your garden being busy, I really love this time of the year, I have so many blooming, with so many bees that someone is bound to get pollinated, cross your fingers for me!!!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I just made this photo, I'm really tickled with this pink 'unknown' that we call 'Tipsy' because she has a darker rim around her skirt - and, I hope you can see the bee, surely someone will get pollinated. However, that bee appears to be driving under the influence, I hope a hangover doesn't keep him from doing his work!!!!!

I just have to send one more photo of the same unknown, I just love her and she will always have a home in my garden...

I bet that white is so pretty next to all that green, Gretchen.

Margie, I sure hope it isnot another kind of cucumber beetle. I do not need another kind to squish. What kind of camera do you have?

I sure wish we had a starving mite eating bug around! Did I tell you how much I hate mites?

Very pretty suav, Sherry!

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Sherry...very lovely brug and photo!

Kell...I am not sure if it is another kind of cucumber beetle...a gal into bugs over on Tinkers doesn't think it is. They seem to mostly hang around my daylilies! I have a Sony DCS 85 digital camera.

Gretchen...unfortunately we do not see lightning bugs where I am in CA. I do love them from back east! These are smaller than 1/2 " but do like to chew their way through leaves.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Margie, I think your picture might be of a striped blister beetle. You can run a search and see several pictures of different blister beetles.
That is as close as I can come anyway.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Sherry -- love your pink brug! I have several that look like her.

Kell -- its a pretty plant. Probably the prettiest brug (plant) I have for she has humongous leaves and lots of blooms.
