3 heaping tablespoons of mayonnaise
2 level tablespoons of finely minced onions
2 level tablespoons of strained relish (I like to use 2 heaping T. of India Relish)
pinch of salt
pinch of pepper
The secret, of course, is to remove the excess moisture from the relish.
If you prefer, you may use chopped sweet or dill pickles in place of the relish.
Mix the onions, mayonnaise and relish together - add salt and pepper - and I
guarantee that you'll have the most delicious tartar sauce you've ever tasted.

I have used the above recipe over the years. Got it from the wrapper of Mrs. Paul's
Fish Sticks in the early 60's. the directions are a direct quote.
I love it with most sea food, hamburgers, as a sandwich spread, etc. Much better than anything you can buy in a bottle at the super-market.....and it is so simple and easy to make. The measure of ingredients can be adjusted to tasts. (I also like a bit more onion).
