Brugs constantly amaze me

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I really have been noticing how much the color of a brug can change every day even without the help of the sun. Here is one that looked dusky rose in the morning when the sun was not hitting it

and then in the afternoon when the sun was almost overhead it turned the brug an orangy color, with the older blooms almost a red.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Kell, in the first photo, the leaves seem sorta teal/green, a very pretty shade!! In the 2nd photo, the color reminds me of Gingered Rose Petal jam - I've tried to duplicate that color forever...I love this brug, does it mind the heat?

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Very pretty Kell. It has a feminine look about it.

This is the same one that is in this link, http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/464702/ . I just love it.

I can't wait to go see it today for all those new flowers on it will have turned dark. It just started blooming last week so I have no clue how it will be in summer. Oddly, I have no nickname for her. Usually one comes to me quite quickly which helps me remember who is who when they are not in bloom. So far I guess I refer to her in my mind as A. LOL. Actually S04 BEN A is her tag name. LOL

When I put her back under protection for the night and out of the sun, she returned to her pink color. For some reason the sun shining thru her blooms changed her completely. I rather she be dark pink myself.

Rock Hill, SC(Zone 8a)

Kell, great color and you back drop is made in heaven!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Too good Poorgeorge. Yes, made in heaven!

Well, I am in distress over this one. it seems it has totally changed colors now to a deep coral rose. I wanted it to stay pink. Maybe it is the weather, we had a heat spell when these were growing big and now it has turned cold. I sure hope next summer it will be pink again!

Here she is with Rosabelle tonight for contrast.

Kell,

I saw a website for registering brug varieties http://www.brugmansiaregistry.com/ the other night while searching for some brug info and I immediately thought of you.

Will you be registering/have you registered your brugs?

A fan in TX,

Donna

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I found that in order to register a brug, you have to grow a cutting to bloom size and make sure it blooms like the parent plant. I haven't figured out how it could be different, but it is one of the rules that has to be followed, I guess. So, it takes two years basically.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I wonder why Brugie. The only time I can see it not happening is if you happen to cut off a sport.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Hmmmmm I thought it was to see the differences in the different environments

kell - "is if you happen to cut off a sport."

What is a 'sport'?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi Donna, so sorry I did not answer you. Sometimes I am not all here! LOL

If they do well next year I will register them with ABADS. It is the official registry and I want to support them. I love their site, I am always using it for research on brugs.

A sport is .... LOL. See now I going to run outside to take a picture of one for you!

OK back!! I got sidetracked. I just noticed Big Yella must have well over a thousand buds on her. I tried to get a pic but it is too dark for my camera. Anyway, here is a sport on Maya. It is a growth that is different from the rest of the plant. In this example, it will go no where for it has no chlorophyll to survive in its own. But many times, a whole new unusual plant is made and they are very exciting to find! New coleus are often started from sports.
