Could anyone tell me what the 2 tall spike things are on my Cycad? As well there are a few needles turning yellow/is there a way to avoid this or to do something for the plant?
Thanks, Ingrid
Cyas Revoluta(Cycad) has something strange growing from it
Paradise,
It looks like it's starved for light. When you have a sago palm in full sun the fronds are shorter and more compact. When you move them into an area with less light they get longer and darker in color but when you reach a certain point of low light they come out way long and stringy. The best thing for it is full sun. It should go back to normal as it grows out more fronds. Good luck with it.
BugFreak,Thank-you
The fronds which you mentioned should I cut them down ? The little picks on them are somewhat browning on the tips.
Ingrid
I would cut them off. It won't hurt it so long as you leave the others alone and move it to more light.
BugFreak, ok I will cut them off.One more question- Should I remove the yellow picks off the one stem or leave it alone?
Thanks,so much Ingrid
You can do whatever you want.. the yellow needles aren't hurting the plant, but cutting them off won't hurt the plant, either. That picture is great- one of the most stretched set of new leaves I have ever seen on a Sago. Is it in total darkness?
palmbob, the way I ook the picture it seems to look like the poor plant is total darkness-but it's not
The room faces south and the plant is to the far wall of the room.I will change it towards the windows. Just thought it would dry it out.Do you know if it like getting misted?
Ingrid
It doesn't particularly care about misting, but severe low humidity will damage the needles... never kept one of these indoors before. I don't think misting it will hurt it though. This plant loves heat and bright light, too.
palmbob, Wonderful, thanks to all the great advice.
To everyone else, thank-you
Ingrid
Ingrid, just don't forget it in the cold...last year, I made the mistake of leaving this one out., that one night in Jan it froze....totally forgot him! What a magnificent palm it was too!!! E.
Roselaine, Thanks for letting me know about leaving it outside but up to now she's been inside.
Thanks, Ingrid
