This is why I am so excited !!

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

This is what I call my brug. ally. We didn't get the walkways in this past summer so I planted as many brugs along there as I could. Now they are all in bud.

It looks lovely Patricia. You have given me an idea for planting! Is autumn brug time in CA? I have more blossoms and buds open right now then I had the whole summer. Of course my brugs are all new since spring, so it may be attributed to that.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Beautiful Patricia. What is the small one in the lower left corner? LindaSC

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Oh Patricia! This looks wonderful! I wish I would be able to see the smile on your face when they are in full bloom, and the smell is at its height! Congratulations on such a beautiful allee!

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Plantlady, I had the same experience. I have about twendy brugs in the ground right now. Other than solid Gold, Charles Grimaldi , creamsickle, knightii and Golden Lady, none of the other's even got buds until September and it seems like they are opening so ..........slow.

Ihughes, The small one you see is my B. golden lady. She is one of my best bloomers. I am not sure if goldenlady is naturally a smaller brug. as far as height, or if it is because I didn't prune it right when I brought it in for storage last Fall. I am going to start some new one's from cuttings this year and see if I get more height.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks Shelly, I was chomping at the bit this morning waiting for it to get light enough so I could go outside and check on them. I am truly like a mother hen sitting on her egg's anxiously waiting for them to hatch. We got down to 42 degree's last night , so I am getting a bit nervous.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Very nice Patricia. I'd love to have an allee, but living out here in the country and the way it is set up around here, there is no place that it would look right. I'm doomed to grow them in pots, better for moving inside if I have to anyway. I hope you have plenty of time for some great photos of your brugs.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Me too Shirley. It should look spectacular when they all bloom.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Patricia, too wonderful. I just love it. What a grand look. All my brugs also have so many buds. I can't believe it. All of them are covered. I sure hope I get to see them open.

Last year they did it also for I went nuts pollinating in November and either they did not take or they fell off soon after. I swore I would not do it this year but I am!! Forever hopeful! Oh.I have a very tall and wide GL. She suckers like crazy tall, tall shoots.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Well, I will start my Golden Lady from a new cut this year and hopefully she will get tall. Although I didn't mind her being short at all. She has always been one of my favorites. I think of you Kell everytime I look at her.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Patricia, who are the two tiny ones on the bottom left hand side??? I LOVE little ones!!! With brugs like that, you don't need a walk, except for a 'viewing lane'....

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I think it may matter that mine has been in the ground since I got it. Too bad you have such a swing in temps. I had no idea Livermore got so cold Particia.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Our low was 41 degrees last night also! Is it warmer where you are kell?
I put my brugs in my little GH yesterday afternoon when it was 62 degrees & thought it would stay alittle bit warmer than outside....but it didn't ;'( Not sure why? Of course I didn't have any bottles filled with water to radiate out heat, so what did I expect?!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I do not know what it was last night. I do know this morning I was cold and told my DH that it was time to turn on the heat!

My brugs last winter did great until the temp dipped just below 32 degrees. And then I only got freezer burn on the leaves. My hoophouse was unheated and it was enough protection that the brugs in there did not even get freeezer burn. This year I may buy a heater for it to see if I can keep my late pods.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

So far so good. But since we were down to 41 last night, I am putting all my rooted cuttings inside the greenhouse tonight. It is quit a job I am finding out. I have to spray everyone of them for bugs and put a drench through the soil. I don't want to take a chance on getting spider mites or any other bugs on my hoya's.

Kell, it isn't unusual for us to get down to 27 in the winter. You are much warmer on the other side of the hills. I am keeping my greenhouse at 60 degree's during the winter nights.

Sherry, The only small one's I have is Knightii and golden lady. Golden Lady because I didn't prune her right when I put her in the garage to go dormat. Knightii, I don't know why it didn't get larger. However, it did bloom all summer. On the other side there is B.Sunkissed. I got her late so that is why she is smaller.

Syracuse, NY

i am jealous of you people from CA bragging about your brugs budding and blooming and us poor people up north have to watch falling leaves and buds. just kidding more power too you and you can keep us supplied with pictures. Bob

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Great looking ally, Patricia.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks Ada, I will post a picture when they all start blooming.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Patricia, I love it! You did a great job.....I want one! LOL

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Brinda, I want one also but I need more room or less plants.

San Jose, CA

i can't wait to see the photo when they are all blooming. i had 3 brugs last year bloom in november but they didn't look as nice in winter. the color was lighter and blooms were smaller when compared to blooms during warm weather. i tried pollinating but nothing took for me either.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Hope you have that camera ready, can't wait to see more photos with everything blooming!! I love it .. it looks great!!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Can't wait to see the "in-bloom" pix! Really looks great!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Patricia!! Looks like I might have a chance with a small one, I have Golden Lady...

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Patrica, what kind of heater do you use? I was thinking of asking Gretchen to tell me what heater she uses. I remember her posting hers and a site to get it. My hoophouse is so wet, I am afraid i will electrocute myself.

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

kell...the heater that Gretchen uses is probably posted with her GH thread....I know it is electric with a thermostat. I don't have electricity to my little GH and my DH was afraid of electrocution also, so I go a Buddy propane heater...it has no thermostate, but can be put on high or low and is also for indoor use. I am going to attach it to a large propane tank that will be outside and the heater in.
I know I am not Patricia...but just thought I would add my 2 cents!!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I'm afraid of being blown up, as well as being electrocuted. I'm going to use the heater Gretchen uses, which is some kinda oil thing that's run by electricity and it looks like an old fashioned radiator and has a thermostat and Lowes, Walmart, Home Depot, etc, all have them and they aren't all that expensive...surely it won't use as much electricity as the cement pond! Gretchen, is it expensive to run???

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Kell, I am using an electric heater. I bought a brand made by DeLonghii. I got the one that is suppose to use almost 40% less electricity to run. On the internet they were selling for around $60. I found the same one at Lowes for less than $40. I have been running it nights since August and my husband hasn't noticed a difference on the electric bill yet. Of course as we get colder which we are now, the cost will show up. I am just hoping it won't be too bad.

I took one of my wire shelves and put a piece of plywood on top and put the heater under it so that the misters don't get water in it.

Patricia, your alley looks very nice! Do you have to move them into winterquarters? I see, that you live in California. You probably dont have to.

Rock Hill, SC(Zone 8a)

Good looking ally, Patricia. I would like to do something like that but I have so many trees that I can't do a long path. But, I'm working on something for next spring. Here's an update on the cuttings that you sent me. Cream Sickle,HG, and Golden Lady. Roots are really showing and even new leaves. I can't wait for next spring to put them out and see their show.

Looking good George. I like the addition of the pictures on the table.

Rock Hill, SC(Zone 8a)

Hi Brugie, The old brain ain't what it use to be! So I make pictures to remember colors and types so I will remember later what to put where and color mixes. If I can overwinter all the cuttings of the plants that I have in pots and in the ground, in a few weeks, I will have a jungle next summer, lol. I can't wait!!!!

Austell, GA(Zone 7a)

Looks great. A beautiful sight. Brenda

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi Monika, I do get quit alot of frost here. I will just start new plants from cuttings this year. Last year we moved into this house in Nov. and I brought about five of the larger one's with me and overwintered them inside. The rest I made cuttings of and kept them in a pail of water in the garage. It seemed like the one's I overwintered were the one's that I had the most trouble with spider mites on this summer. That might have just been a coincidence however.

George, I am so pleased that your cuttings are doing well for you. Next summer take a picture and send me. I would love to see them.

Patricia
