when ready to go dormant...

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

I have 2 brugs in pots that I will put in my dormant closet. I know you pull most of the leaves off but do you cut the plants back any ? My Isabella hasnt bloomed or Y'd but it is getting a little tall ?

Charlotteda, I am certainly no expert and someone will come along to give you good advice. I have a small gh and another room that I call my bonsai room (where i store my bonsai for winter) that I put as many of my brugs as there was room for. I also took as many cuttings from ones that had bloomed that i wanted to keep for another season, as I felt I had room for. I will prune them (the ones stored) as soon as they finish blooming. The rest outside are all frozen and have been dug up and put on compost. Sad to see them gone. Donna

I, who has never put a brug to sleep (so I know nothing) say: I wouldn't cut it for it will set you back on getting that Y. I f you have room, leave them be. However, I would also take a side piece to root as back up on a window sill just in case they really, really hate their winter quarters.

so do they automatically go dormant?....i have mine in the greenhouse, and keep it at least 65 in there....when the sun is out(but it hasnt been for a while here, dang it)it gets warmer during the day......im confused.......they seem to be fine....i know i will probably need to cut down on the amount of water, but i dont wanna bring all them to the basement......oh my, i sure hope they will be ok for the winter
