Gorgeous photo and a beautiful bunch of flowers.

Interesting how the name and the flower forms both mimic "Catalpa" which is a native American tree with large clusters of white blooms. Must be some connection there.
I love the pink color!
Thanks for posting the picture.

Edited to say duh! I just read the detail from Terry about this being a hybrid from Catalpa. No wonder it has a great resemblance.

I thought this was a Catalpa for years, I had misunderstood the nursery specialist who came to visit. Only recently was I corrected, but it explained why I could not figure out what species of Catalpa it was! Totally different leaves.

This graces a lovely area of the yard, and the wildlife love it. Very easy to propagate with cuttings.

Very easy from cuttings....that sounds tempting.
My Dad said the oldtimers would use catalpa wood for fenceposts and that quite often they rooted and became living fences. Perhaps the easy rooting characteristic came from that parent. The flowers are so lovely and bring back childhood memories of the times when we had a huge catalpa tree in our yard. My sisters and I would put them on our fingers and pretend they were beautiful long fingernails. The pink colored ones would be even better for that, ha.
I left you a message on one of your other pics, too.
Thanks for posting this plant...I never heard of it before and it sounds wonderful.

I should try and post a picture of the tree truck. Twisted and absolutely lovely. Will see what I can do when the sun comes up. There are more pictures of it on my yard tour. Go to http://www.packrat-pro.com then the garden section, then the Eden tour. In the pondside area the tree will be in bloom, I believe.

Beautiful!

You certainly must be a busy woman...I will have to finish my tour of your extensive website later. It looks fascinating.
