Don't know how big the plants normally get ,but she's a nice sizer!!
This is even after I stripped dozen leaves off her when I brought her in the greenhouse for winter.

Is that a flower bud I see?

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Hi Don! They do eventually get to be large and bushy when they expand, and their root system is enormous! Congrats on that bud that you have!

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

You bet it is!
Clare,I think its gonna be white not blue from the looks of it tonite, the bud should be turning blue shouldn't it?
I've never seen any around here that big,its over 3 ft tall now.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Don, it could be white! There is white, blue, and purple here that I have seen. The flower stalks can get up to around five feet, I think, but the foliage usually stays around two or three feet.

Moscow, TN(Zone 7a)

Tropicman, I bring my white and blue in the greenhouse for the winter and they bloom every spring. But I rarely fertilize them. They are lovely and I am leaving some in the ground this year with mulch to see if they come through.

SDG,are yours the large vareities?
So they are spring bloomers, seems mine is blooming out of cycle then, huh!
Clare when do they bloom out in Californey?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Don't know about California but in TX they bloom in the spring. I overwintered some in TN in the ground, only part of the clump survived, but they like TX! Congrats on your bud Don. I bet you have things blooming year round don't you?

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Hi Don, I think they bloom twice a year here, spring and fall, but I'm not completely sure about that. They are widely planted here by the city and schools and apartment complexes and shopping malls. They are so overplanted that they go unnoticed most of the time, which is a shame really because the flowers are beautiful.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Cala,you bet!Love the flowers!!
Clare, its a white one for sure, don't smell any fragrance yet,it might open tomorrow, suppose to get to 80*,maybe they have to be a certain age before they bloom ,or even the twice a year bloom cycle,I hear there is a smaller vaerity that is hardy to zone 6,will have to look for one,to see if I like it or not.

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

Hi Don, the white ones are very pretty, but I don't think these have a fragrance.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Beautiful, Don. I sure hope you recover quickly. Yours is lovely, and it is great that it is fragrant. Maybe the ones here are fragrant too, and I just never noticed the fragrance before. I'll pay better attention the next time mine blooms. Here is a link of what mine looks like: http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/139/index.html
