Thank's to all of you for the welcome
Glad you joined us! :) Please tell us about your garden.
Welcome lazygirl!
Welcome to Dave's Garden, lazygirl from another Torontonian, transplanted to Pickering!
If you are in Toronto BTW, your zone is not 5a its 6a. If you want to look at the Canadian hardiness map, please go to:
http://sis.agr.gc.ca/cansis/nsdb/climate/hardiness/intro.html
Good heavens, I finally checked that link, Christine, and realized I have been out a whole zone, myself! When it's all magnified and done, I'm a 6b, not a 5b. I'll be!! Thanks.
Thanks ceedub, I have checked and yes you were correct.....
so, welcome Lazygirl. Gardeners are not lazy however. We are a pretty crazy bunch here. You are lucky to be able to go to Canada Blooms & near enough to visit RBG in iris (&lily) bloom time.
Cheers Inanda
Hi! Lazygirl1 From not as snowy, Southern Alberta! Brenda
I have had that nick name for a very long time, it come from when I spend my vacations in the Carribean. I love to sit in the omn the beach in the sun and read for hours on end. That's the only time I get to do some serious reading.
Gosh, I could do with a Caribbean beach right about now. We are having an ugly January day here.
It was sunny in Saskatchewan yesterday and today :D.......please don't throw rotten tomatoes my way (we hardly have seen the sun this whole year)!
You deserve having some sun finally. You've had a rotten summer.
LOL......thanks Linda, you are sooo right!
Sunny here too for a couple of days in a row, but a biting little SE wind and of course still a whole bunch of white stuff on the ground to remind us of the season which is supposed to be fall but.....
Anyone have any ideas of repairing heavy wet snow load damage to trees which have assumed most unnatural positions for long enough now that I believe it might become permanent. My columner spruce look much closer to horizontal than vertical these days. My only thought is to get out there and tie them up to something. Can't even get the snow to dislodge; maybe I can beat them with a witches broom for a seasonal effect??
Can't help you with getting rid of the snow but if the trees are still bent it may be possible to straighten these trees and brace them with guy wires. Attach two to three guy wires to the trunk and anchor the wires 10 to 12 feet away from the tree. I'm sure I've seen where they have used insulation and duct tape to help protect the bark from the rubbing of the wire.
HUH?!
Trees bent with snow... using insulation on trunks...
Are you guys sure it's not April 1st?
LOL,, just enjoying a day in the sun here, after frost again last night. The temp in my new enclosed deck is 23*C.
You guys can brag when we have our 45th straight day of rain and wind in our 'winter' and we're soggy and cranky.
Linda in Victoria
What is that a pic of Pam? I know, it's water, lol, but is part of a park? Don't tell me it's a street. lol
Hey Liz :)......It's the creek that runs through the park where the library is situated:
http://www.citymoosejaw.com/tourism/attraction/park.shtml
Now that is gorgeous. Is there skating on it in winter?
I haven't skated since I lived in Montreal.
They set up a skating shack every winter now. :)
It is a lovely park and a great place to escape to at break time.
I bet it is heavenly. Cold, but heavenly.
Nice website Pam. I just gotta make it out to Moosejaw!
D.
Oh, wasn't that pretty. But I can imagine with the cost of upkeep and budget restraints...
Pam, the description of the library sounds gorgeous! Is that where you work?
There are a lot of much larger cities (guess which one) that could learn a lot about web design from Moose Jaw. Your site is informative, well laid out and easy to navigate. Did they have Dave do it? LOL
yep it is....& the library is gorgeous! I took Adrien Clarkson's husband (John Saul) on a *quick* tour of it. He was amazed with the architectural design of it........pretty good for a small town that asked for money from the Carnegie foundation and was turned down (they didn't believe Moose Jaw was as big as it claimed to be so the citizens raised the money and built it themselves).
Lynn we are pretty proud of our web designer. :)

My DH and I saw John Raulston Saul when we were in Yellowknife a couple of years ago. We were in a store that sold mukluks, carvings, etc., when he strode in and asked the clerks if they'd seen his wife (!). Guess that explained all the guys hanging around outside in trenchcoats, sunglasses and wires sticking in their ears....
lolololol....it was the same when he came in. They were hanging out all over the place....never felt so safe at the library before (not that there's ever anything much to worry about) but it sure seemed strange. When he came in he was flanked by four others....all were exceptionally talllllllll!
Apparently I'm the only person who is 'royally' ticked of by him.
