Mock Orange 'Aureus'
Philadelphus coronarius

If trimmed, it can make a wonderful yellow-foliaged shrub

Hi
I have a Mockorange a little bigger than this. I was wondering how old the one in the picture is? Mine is being crowded by larger trees and is getting more and more shade every year. Do you think I could still move it?
Thanks
Joanne

They are pretty resilient...moved befoe they leaf out I'd say you would be OK. The one in the pic is probably 15 years old! They grow slowly here!

Mock orange is def on my list of must- haves. I have heard the fragrance is heavenly!

Joanne,
How old/big is your tree? My DH is the expert at moving/replanting trees, but hes at work right now.
If it's not too big to move, you get most of the root system, and its done at the right time of the year, then relocating trees can be pretty easy.

It's about 5ft tall, it looks a little bigger that Todds (in the picture above). The base is pretty big, I wouldn't be able to put my arms around it, but then the shrub is as tall as I am, give or take an inch or so. It was here when we moved in 5 years ago, but the property has many very mature trees, shrubs etc. so I wouldn't be suprised if it was 15 years old. Any suggestions your DH may have would be welcome.
Joanne
