Hopefully no frost tonight

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

I have had 2 other friends over for about 6 hours today, and we enclosed the last open part of the deck, except for the doorway witch currently has a shower curtain over it, until I can think of something better. Then I spent 4 hours hanging silver curtains, the kind that keep light out (in). It's clear tonight and 8*C outside, but 15*C on my new fully enclosed deck and my new 'light up the block' light! I'm so happy. Others just shake their head at me.

But

It's supposed to go to 4*C tonight, and my 3 largest brugs are still outside. I just don't have it in me for anymore physical work tonight. I'm hoping that it doesn't frost.

Oh well, tomorrow's another day.

Hey what kind of light up the world light do you have? I have 2 1000 watt metal halides and one 125 watt sunblaster My power company loves me

Holy Smokes! You must light up the whole block and then some!!!

I have ONE of the 1000watt metal halides. It's lots for me.

LOL, Do you get a tan from those lights too?! I figure when some of my friends get down in dumps from the rain & soggy west coast winter, we'll have a party on the deck with the bright lights, and tropical plants. Should be a blast.

LOL I think peeps at the coast should be able to claim part of their bill as light therapy!

Speaking of which the cloud cover *finally* broke here :D....snows almost gone and the Ladybugs came out to play.

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

Well, today I MUST bring the rest of the brugs (3). Currently I don't have any frost. The temps at the university is 3 with dew point not listed. The harbour 4 with the dew point at 2, and the airport 1 with the dew point at 0, so frost isn't far away. The brugs outside look OK for now. I'm so glad we got the deck done yesterday...

Lady bugs! That's great. Yesterday around supper time, I noticed some thing on the deck, (that I'm sure everyone here knows by now is closed in except for the door LOL) and it was a hummingbird. It was at the hibiscuses, and checked out all the brugs. I spoke quietly at it, and stood in the doorway to the house, so he wouldn't come in the house. He flew around a couple of times, hovered a few, but finally saw the doorway and out he went. We have Anna's hummingbirds all year, and there are 2 that stay at my feeder. It was a lovely sight to have him happily feeding and checking out hte deck.

I spoke too soon.

Now that the sun is coming up and I can see outside better, I realise that there is a frost out there. :(

Time will tell about the 3 brugs still out there.

But the hummers are out feeding already:)

I hope they didn't get zapped too hard. What kind of Brugs are they Linda?

North Saanich, Canada

No frost out here LInda!!!! Brugs are still out. CG bloom just getting ready to open up. Sure wish it woudl hurry up!!!

Glenda didn't get any frost, Jeanne 150mi north of us didn't get any frost, just lucky me. Maybe Heather, but I haven't heard from her. I think she probably did.

I got everything in under cover now. The three brugs that were out, the frosty pink looked OK, then I cut it back, the CG looked OK as well, and have cut it back. The white sauveolens 10'tree was looking quite sad. I think it got stunned by the frost. It is about to have it's second flush, so it's laying on it's side, propped up a bit, until it blooms, then it'll make it way to the basement with a bunch more when they finish blooming.

Today, we are dealing with 60Km winds.

At least life out here isn't boring!

I'm getting the winds too Linda. Plants are on their sides all over the place. My musa basjoo is getting shredded.

We got the winds yesterday afternoon and all night. The place is a mess, leaves everywhere, plants knocked over etc.

I don't think I got frost yesterday morning, Linda - although I didn't get out in the garden until around 9:30am as we had company on Saturday night! But it was a nice day for working in the yard. My hubby and I dug up the Peaches & Cream, which was in the ground, and put it in a pot as it was full of blooms, and I wanted to bring it inside for a while. We couldn't get it through the front door so I placed it on my front deck and this morning it was half out of the pot with the winds. There I was in my business suit ,trying to straighten it up before I went to work! Well, some things just have to wait, right?
