I just wondered if anyone else had ever had a problem with raccoons eating your nectar. I would get up each morning and see that my feeders were empty. I couldn't figure it out. I wondered at first if my cat had tipped it when trying to play with the hummers. She often sits and watches them. I then began to figure that it must be the raccoons. I often see them on the back deck, because they love the cat food. I guess they got tired of the cat food or there wasn't any available so they went for the feeders. They would empty them completely or pull them down. I tried hanging them higher up but they climb up the rails and get them. I kept picturing in my mind one of them climbing up and tilting it and the other one under it getting the nectar poured into his mouth. LOL. Well.. finally one night I turned on the lights of the deck and I saw a raccoon on the deck. I called my son in and we watched him. He went right over climbed up the rail, reached up and had both paws on the feeder. Finally.... caught in the act. I wish I had a picture or a video of me sneaking out the door and standing there. I finally said in a loud voice to him, "What cha doing!!!!" Needless to say it was funny as heck the way he looked at me and then fell off the deck rail about 5 feet backwards. LOL. I haven't seen him again since. I just wondered if anyone else had had this problem or had feeders mysteriously emptied. It could be raccoons.
