Well, this morning dawned clear and c h i l l y, with the dreaded "F" word. Relax Dave, I mean Frost! Yes, after a day of miserable rain yesterday with temps not reaching more than 5 degrees, it cleared and dropped to 1 degree over night. It was a light frost, but it was frost nonetheless. High today is only 8 degrees. Hubby, pup, and I went for a hike down to the river this morning and when we got back we had "rosy" cheeks. (Just me and hubby, not the pup) But it was still a gorgeous walk and we enjoyed it. Have a good day all.
It's happened!
So what was the weather like today? I'm sure finding it interesting reading when people have first frost......it's amazing how much the ocean and large bodies of water protect those even further inland from the early deep freeze.
Linda said she had frost in Victoria, none out here by the ferry terminal. My brugs are still out and look okay. I will be putting them undercover this week, and taking some log cuttings to root. I still have several brug blooms on the way. Have been babying teh CG brug that LInda gave me, and it has one bloom, and it is just ready to pop. Not being a brug veteran, I am wondering if I should bring it in the house?? Will warmer temperatures harm or help?? It is quite small, but I'm so anxious to see the bloom open.
Glenda
No frost here either. But it did go down to 4c last night. Still loads of brugs outside. Big and small. This slow lowering of the temps is fine for them as long as we don't have a week of rain and 4c.
We haven't had any frost yet either. But I've brought most of the brugs into the conservatory and gh. Was cutting 14+ feet brugs off today to root. Brought a white pearl x big that was over 14 feet into the conservatory. It's covered in buds, I already checked, it's a double, not sure of the colour yet. It's touching the ceiling. Will take pictures later.
:D Love to see what those monsters look like.
Since yesterday's light frost, The temperature during the day have only been reaching 8 or so with the low last night and expected tonight to +1. Showers predicted tomorrow with a high to only 6 tomorrow, but 9 & 10 for Tuesday and Wednesday. Lows on those days down to 3 C. Winter is upon us, it looks like.
You're right, Liz..........yesterday morn you could feel the cold nip....even though it turned out to be a beautiful day! All my trops are in now.........how is the greenhouse coming along??? E
Would like to see pictures of the new greenhouse Liz.
I got everything in under cover now as well. The three brugs that were out, the frosty pink looked OK, then I cut it back, the CG looked OK as well, and have cut it back. The white sauveolens 10'tree was looking quite sad. I think it good stunned by the frost. It is about to have it's second flush, so it's laying on it's side, propped up a bit, until it blooms, then it'll make it way to the basement with a bunch more when they finish blooming.
Yes Liz, photos of the new GH, and of course what ever is blooming ;)
I'll try and take some pics today. But you can't actually see the gh, it's jammed with tropicals.
gotta get em in, Liz.............did ya see see the white stuff across the Inlet?
