Best Part For Cuttings

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

What are the best parts for cuttings-above y, below y, woody stem, green stem?

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Green stems are sometimes hard to root, as they are too limber. Try and get the top with a little harder/woody stem, it is more solid.

Above the Y will give you shorter plants than below the Y cuttings. They may or may not bloom a little quicker from above the Y. It is best if you can find the parts of the plant that have a color other than just green on them and maybe even green cuttings will work easily for you if they have the little white spots (lenticels) on them. If the green cuttings are just smooth and green, they take a little more time to root and sometimes will just turn to mush. Gloria is good at rooting green cuttings. I never have gained the knack for getting it to work well.

They should look like this.........The one on the top is too young..the one on the bottom is Juuuuust right! :-)

I've found that I just don't have any luck with green cuttings. I've purchased them on Ebay other places, and they all shortly turn to mush.

My green ones turn to mush also. Ive tried a couple ways, and I just do best with the harder wood cuttings.

I have good luck with the kind at the bottom of Kyle's picture and with hard wood cuttings as long as they aren't too hard. It works best for me to just stick them in soil when the weather is warm. Once it is really cool, I put them in a glass of water until the lenticels start popping out and then I pot them in soil.

Brugie i can finnaly see what a bud looks like, I got some cuttings in the mail and one had a bud on, leaves were still in good shape too so I potted it right away, two days later and the bud is still there, just barely starting to open on the bottom

I hope it will stay on for you. There is nothing like that first brug bloom.

Maybe just the time of the year and temperature changes. It will grow fine for you next year. I had hoped you would see blooms this year though.
