Falling "arms" on my Christmas Cacti

Cape Ann, MA(Zone 6a)

Help, please!
The "arms" of my Christmas cacti are falling off. Is it from over-watering, under-watering, incorrect soil type? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Judy

Judy, check to see if you can spot mealybug....(white fluffy bits at the joints of the cactus...this can cause drop)....hpy gding.........Elaine

Thank you, Elaine, I hadn't thought of mealy bugs. Will put on the glasses and check it out. Best, Judy

I have had them drop branches when they are kept too wet or too dry.

Thanks, IndaShade. I have neglected them a bit lately, so will watch that, too.

Hi,

I had the same problem with my Thanksgiving cactus. I had a case of rot going on. Look for soft/mushy and slightly darker green stems particularly at the soil surface. I ended up having to totally dismantle the parent plant and start a new one using the generated cuttings. I think I overpotted mine last spring. Watch your watering during it's rest period (after blooming). Water/fertilize regularly in late spring and summer.

Like Indashade, I've had the same problem when too wet or dry, but mostly when too wet and too cool/cold at the same time.

Hope you're able to solve your plant's problem!

I don't mean to butt in again, but I found a nursery here that may have some of the old hybrids of Christmas Cactus etc. Easter cactus etc. I have many of the species, but only a few of the Hybrids.

Mine is starting to burst open, I am very excited. This is my first year to flower the plant, I will try and take a piture of it tomorrow for you, it is pink with white petals. It is growing in very low light, on a north side of a brick fence. Crasulady2 Norma
