A real greenhouse at last!

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

Well, I finally get the real thing. After several years of throwing together a temporary gh when it was due to get cold and tearing it down each spring/summer, I just ordered myself a real greenhouse. I ordered a 14 x 24 hoop house from FarmTek. I know it won't be big enough for long , but it's what I could afford and it's bigger than the temp gh we put up the last couple of years. The only way I could afford that was from a very small inheritance from the sale of my mother's house (she passed away in 98).

FarmTek has several different kinds of ghs. You can find some at FarmTek.com or call 1-800-327-6835. Tracy is the salesperson I happened to get and he really was helpful and went out of his way I thought, to double check things for me. If you call him to order a catalog, tell him Pam recommended him and FarmTek. He insinuated that we had an unforgettable relationship after yesterday morning. Had a little problem about an advertising promotion they sent me about free shipping. The marketing department didn't clearify it to exclude certain things leaving the customer with a different interpretation. They had to admit I was right and finally agreed to live up to their advertising (that was the supervisor). Bet that marketing department had a meeting that afternoon! But all was accomplished with no bad feelings and they were very nice and made even a small potatoes customer (me) feel she was important to them.

I see Farm Tec greenhouses are getting popular. Someone else just posted about getting one from them.
I get there catalog regularly. They have lots of cool things for greenhouses. I needed a shutter for a fan, they had it & very reasonable too!
Enjoy your greenhouse!

Gosh, if it ever gets here! FarmTek called today and said it would be shipped the 29. I thought it was shipped last Friday. Hope we don't get a frost before it gets here. Right now it doesn't feel like it, but you never know with our crazy weather.

gingerlily,

Congrat"s!!

I got my Farmtek in Feb. We have the frame up, have been wait for the Storm Season to pass before we cover it. My sales person was Beth, I about drove her crazy with the odds & ends to go with it. I got the 20X20 Gothic, wish I had gotten Quonset, my roof peak is about 14
ft.!!!!! Hate to think of the fuel bill. I got the same run around about Free Delivery, I gave up & paid the charge!! Brommom helped me decide to order from FarmTek, she has one & loves it!!

I am so happy for you!! Enjoy.
See you at the Fl. Round_up in April.

Well, it arrived late Thursday afternoon, so Friday morning about 7:00 a.m. we got started. Since we didn't finalize the location til Thursday, we still had a good bit of site prep to do on Friday morning. Behind DH (green shirt) is a wrought iron gazebo with brugs and other plants in pots inside and out. By lunch we had the ground posts set and ready for rafters. No, they had to put base boards on first.

The afternoon started off with building rafters. It simply amazed me the extent the guys went to for leveling the rafters. That's my son on the ground checking to see if it is level before being screwed together. If they didn't do this though, the rafters would turn out in all kind of twisted ways. Looks rather caterwonkus in that last picture. We had an extra guy helping. Four of us.

Sorry, thought I sent a picture. See below.

This ended the day Friday, but it still looks like a lot to do. I will say this about these "kits" ..... you really need somebody helping you that knows building techniques. Some parts don't give specific intructions, just suggestions, and you have to wing it with your own judgements and knowledge. Thank goodness DH and the helper do have this kind of knowledge and my son is extremely visionary is seeing how things go together and understanding directions.

Today we're getting the end wall installed first. Don't know if we'll get it finished today or not.

Kind of scary, couples old guys looking at directions! LOL!!
Looks great! You can send them up to help us. I laid out the spot yesterday to figure the ground posts I need to get. I bought a used one so some parts couldn't be removed.
About it taking long to get to your place, did your greenhouse come on a freight truck? If so that is the delay in shipping. The company has to find someone to haul the item, then the freight company brings it only when it can put together a load for an area.

Enjoy you new house!

Yeah, FedEx freight. It really wasn't long, Monday to Thursday. Their shipping/email system just told me it was shipped Friday, but it really didn't leave til Monday.

Did you face your Hoop House north and south? I believe that is the way I heard they are suppose to go...I will be checking back to see the progress you are making to see what we will have to go through when we decide to put up a Greenhouse. I enjoyed the pictures, hope you dont' mind I copied them for future references...

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

The structure part is finished now. I'll try to post another picture soon. If you order one from FarmTek, write me for advice and guidance as you build. The "kit" wasn't exactly the kit I expected it to be. You need to have some help that has some building experience.

I don't mind about the pictures.

I'm so jealous! Wish I had one of my own. Congrats!
