question

a few of us online were talking the other day how it seems cuttings dont bloom as heavily as the parents.

i get on mine who is still three feet tall one bloom at a time but as soon as its gone another comes.

its in the ground. i see some in pots in town( 30 miles away) that have a abundance of blooms. these are all orangeish yellow color.( not peach)

is it the fertilizer i am using ? miracle grow maybe age? or am i just doing something wrong?? i want a brug with blooms like everyone elses. thanks for the advice.

ps is yours in a pot or the ground sun or shade??

When you think about it, most people start with cuttings. Few start with seeds. In fact every person that has a Frosty (or any other named brug and many unnamed) except for just one person, started theirs as a cutting. They sure get around. So being a cutting shouldn't affect floriferousness.

I have found that when I cut off a sucker, I need to let it mature before I get a large enough canopy to put on a show. I also have noticed that some brugs flower in huge flushes while others do a small but constant flower drip. Some seem to bloom early when small, others need to age before they give you a real thrill.

Fertilizer may help to get your plant big enough to have many Ys from which to bud. I do not really use any particular fertilizer but change depending on what I see or hear about. It seems to work for me.

I bet next summer you will get some great flushes.

If you can see it clearly, here is an exactly 1 year old all alley tree that spent most of the summer growing a canopy. It just now is having its first big flush. I took this pic this morning, after a 24 hour terrible storm. It did OK! Must have over 100 buds that just started to open.

i will give it time as i have a few rooting now thanks to a very kind person. i think i will try one in a pot and one in the ground in part shade and see what happens.
