Oh...my DS-70 is growing umbels.....think she's making a last ditch effort before she croaks or is she recovering? *sighing heavily* K
Stressed DS-70 :(
Did you check her roots? Sqeeze gently the very bottom of the stem where it goes into the ground? Healthy? Since I moved mine to less light she seems to be happier, but from time to time my big one just decides to give up on a couple of vines...
That plant looks perfectly healthy to me. I would not unpot it to look at the roots when it looks that good and is starting to make flowers. Seems like that would shock it into droping them. I'm am no expert here, but it is my motto..."If it aint't broke...don't fix it".

LOL...just wrote that on another thread!!! Great minds, Marcy!!!!
You are right...let it bloom...but you could squeeze around it....huh?
Why is it about the plant that makes you think it is sick?
The leaves are curled under....leatherly to the touch. I've never seen a hoya with the edges curled like this, but then I've always only had very basic hoyas, nothing fancy! (see the second pic).........maybe she's supposed to be that way? I'm excited about the bloom, then can make sure she's DS-70!
Your plant looks very healty to me also...
Oh yay! *sigh 'o relief* I'm not so worried now. You Hoya friends are the BEST! Thanks all!
Karen :~D
Well, I'm not sure what is happening with the "turned under" you mentioned, but mine has very leathery feeling leaves also. The plant in the picture looks very normal to me. Yes, as you acquire more & more hoyas, you will notice they are very diverse. Some don't even look related to one another. One can have a collection of nothing but hoyas and have totally different looking plants in every pot. :-)
Marcy
I just love them. I have 10 different ones now....and know for sure this is an illness.....have a few I haven't identified exactly yet, so when I get blooms I will post more! Thanks! :~D
I was scratching my head thinking 'is this an old picture' that plant looks great!
I just went and felt out the leaves on my DS-70 and they are turned under on the edges a bit.
I'm sure mine is healthy, it's blooming it's head off in my dining room!
Anyone looking for this plant, I just saw several full 6 inch baskets from Exotic Angel at Lowes for $8.96!
Thanks Mairzee & Lesli....I guess this one just has a leathery feel, kinda soft too. I am thrilled that she will be ok! I got her in a trade!
Does this one bloom year round for everyone? My started blooming this summer and has not stopped since! Once the blooms fall off, under them is another set already forming, I love it!!
Raven
Ooohhh! Something to look forward to! I wondered if mine was dying because she can't possibly be root-bound yet, I only got her in trade in August (thanks Cris!). She's potted in a 5" pot....maybe she's just happy! It would be so cool to have blooms year-round...you're in Oregon Raven...maybe mine will be bloom-crazy too!
The leaves on that plant look a lot like H. tsangii, to me.
H. tsangii is pretty much ever-blooming for me so you will have to see what the bloom pattern is on that plant. My H. tsangii also has slightly darker green leaves.
That is a very nicely grown plant.
(I would be willing to bet money that DS-70 and H. tsangii are the same plant).
Hi Treelover3 - actually they ARE and they AREN'T. You see, H. tsangii was published as such and then the publisher discovered she made an error...that the plant she had determined as H. tsangii was NOT H. tsangii. So, it had to go back to the original name, H. DS-70 and H. tsangii is still NOT found/in circulation. All of this is per the publisher. It does get confusing, doesn't it. Just when we thought we had it right!!! And for years I thought mine was H. burtoniae (per the label when I bought it and from pictures...). Good thing I have lots of plant tags!!!
Alohahoya2000,
Thanks for the information/update on this plant. I will change the label on my plant to reflect the new "name".
