I wanted to share some photos from a recent trip to the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers...
A tropical treat...
Hmmm... having trouble posting these photos...
Plant,
Thanks for posting all of these neat pictures. I love them all. I'm wondering.... What kind of Alocasia is that in the first picture to the upper-right of the picture.? Do you know by any chance?
Bugfreak, I was wondering the same thing! Love the pics, thanks for posting them Plant.
Hi plant_fiend, I live in San Jose too. I've been meaning to make a trip to the conservatory, since it finally reopened. Thanks for posting the pictures.
Cala,
Doesn't it (the alocasia) look like a tree or a vine? Did you see that ceiling fan? I guess it's not coming on any time soon. lol
Bugfreak, I saw that! It does look like a vine, or it has a very large trunk! I sure don't have any that big!
We can all dream though right. This is an amazing looking plant. I wish someone would come in and tell us what it is. It would give me a reason to move next door to you Cala. You're in the perfect zone.
Sometimes it's perfect, other times it's too windy and this week it's humid! There are two houses on my street for sale Bug, one has some gorgeous plumeria trees in the yard!
Hummm. Something to think about. I don't think I would have to worry too much about hurricanes. The thing is... I just moved here so it would have to be a while. Zone 10 sure does sound nice though.
We rarely get a hurricane down this far, but when Corpus Christi gets hit, we get lots and lots of rain! but the warm winters are worth it.
I bet! That's what I like. This is one reason I think of further south here in FL. How hot are your summers? (Dare I ask)
Hi Bugfreak and Cala - I did take time to jot a few names, mostly I was too awestruck to note much. If I find my notes, I will edit.
Lily, I strongly encourage you to go. the plants are incredible! I went just a few weeks ago and the heat and humidity were intense - don't wait 'til the warm months to go! I can hardly wait to go back for the botanical gardens. So many gardens, so little time!
Funny about the fan, I didn't notice it before you mentioned it Bugfreak!
Thank you so much for posting those beautiful pictures. I'm also wondering what kind of alocasia is in the second pic.
Hi Emily. I will try to find my notes. If not, maybe I can put it in the identification forum. Or, I could always go back!
BugFreak...I think that plant in the upper right hand corner of Pic. #1 is a Philo...I forget the name....HUGE.
GREAT pics. What a treat to visit there!!!
Thanks Carol. How is Dael? I've not heard from him in a while.
BTW;
I'm still looking for the Hibiscus insularis. Keep me in mind if you see/find one. ;-)
AH - IVAN! Maybe we can set something up for next year if I go to Oz again. Will continue to ask around for you!!!
Aloha
Beautiful pics. I really enjoyed them, thanks fr posting them.
MsC
Yes Carol. You do remember. This is Hugo. I look forward to your next trip to Oz. We'll keep in touch between now and then. Thanks for asking around and for being so understanding about Ivan too.
It's looks to be an Ensete ventricosum going up into the fan, and the liana going up the tree on the extreme right looks to be either straight Philodendron speciosum or a hybrid of it.
Leave it to all these "zone 10 and up people" to know what these plants are. You guys have it so tough don't you.
Oh sorry, Hugo...I wrote without thinking. I knew it was an exotic/romantic sounding name!!!
