OK I know I have to stop doing this but I want some too.
Boy the hubby will get a good laugh at me he said I wouldn't be able to stop after my last bunch of trades and sase's.lol at me!
I just cant help my self it is an addiction, It's like I must have a new color or a new plant.
it's fun for me in fall and winter collecting seed or trading for seed.

Milton, VT(Zone 4a)

If any left, and by the sounds of it there are, I will try some as well!

Please confirm that they are available and I will send the SASBE out ASAP.

Or look at my trade list and see if you want to swap something...

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)

LOL. I've got enough seeds for EVERYONE :) Send those Envelopes! Don't forget to put in a note with what you want, tho!!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Dumb question please ma'am! I sent my SASBE off today - question is, are these hard to grow from seed? I have experience with perennials and the like but not shrubs, etc.

I want to have a Rose of Sharon forest!!!

Nicole

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)

nc, I've never grown them from seed. I have 16 shrubs that I got as cuttings about 5 years ago. . But if you want to try them, I have enough seeds for you to make a NATIONAL forest! Take a look: Each of these bowls is two gallons, I took this many seeds pods off just a few branches of each shrub-about 1/10 the amt of seed pods that are actually out there. Each seed pod has from 20 to 50 or more seeds in it!

I've got plenty to go around, btw.. Did I say that already??? ;)

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

OMGosh!!!!

Westmoreland, TN(Zone 7a)

My hubby was reading over my shoulder and saw all the envelopes I am sending out from today and he said he was taking my phone cord with him to work in the morning so i cant get any more seed.
lol i got more than one phone cord he! he! he!

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)

LOLOLOLOL, ah hahahahahahahahah. Mine just shakes his head and tells me he is NOT giving up any more of "HIS" yard!!!!!

Melvindale, MI(Zone 5a)

shazbot3, I have a double Rose of Sharon and so far have only harvested one pod with 4 seeds. A lot of the blossoms have not even formed a pod. Would you have any idea why? Thanks,

Cindy

Westmoreland, TN(Zone 7a)

I think it's only my hubby's yard when it is time for it to be mowed.
He hates it when he has to go around so many things.
so the seed I keep getting is going to be just that much more to go around.
Poor hubby, I should fill bad......... shouldn't I ?
I need to work on that one he! he!

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)

hemlady, how old is your double? I've had my shrubs in the ground for almost 5 years. They never really set seed pods til they had been growing for well over 3 years. This is the first year I've had this many seed pods. I knew there was more than usual out there, but when I actually went out to get the pods, I almost fell over.

I really don't do anything special to them. I just throw some fertilizer at them a couple times during the growing season, and keep them mulched.

I don't have any doubles, tho. I sure would like to :)

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)

Come on guys! I still have PLENTY of these!

Salem, OR(Zone 8a)

I'd like some of your rose of sharon seeds. Please let me know your address and SASE requirements. Thanks!

Shaz, would you save some back for me and send them with the lily seeds, please?

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)

I will, Donna. I sure hope those lily seeds show up soon!

Bellaire, MI(Zone 5a)

You have mail!

Melvindale, MI(Zone 5a)

Shazbot 3, my Rose of Sharon is quite old, probably l0 to l2 years old.

Cindy

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow, hemlady! Then I don't understand, unless that is just a trait of that particular species. Hmm. Like I said, I don't have any doubles, so Ireally don't know about them. I'd sure like to see it, tho. Do you have a pic?

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)

I have a MOUNTAIN of these seeds... Please take them off my hands!

Milton, VT(Zone 4a)

shazbot3,

A bit of info for all those who have equested seeds from you, now including me!!!!

Info from people on the web:

"Soak seed overnight in a dilute chlorox solution. Then lightly cover the seed soil temp 70-80F & takes 7=-10 days to germinate... They are easy to germinate since will find many seedlings under the bush...."

"I had good luck with rose of sharon seeds by storing them in the fridge until spring and planting them in 4" pots, when the seedlings were about a 4-6" I planted them where I wanted them."

Cool, Brian! Thanks for the info :) I've never grown them from seed myself, so that's great that you'd find that. I had no idea whet to tell folks as far as how to germinate. We mow down seedlings all the time, and I'm STILL overrun with them!

(Zone 7a)

I've germinated these seeds also. I did not find they germinate in 7-10 days. My seeds took about 30 days and germinate in vermiculite. I soaked the seeds in warm water for a day. Then placed them in moist vermiculite and kept warm and moist. I really think they kind of like the cold treatment too..I get a lot of seedlings from the seeds that fall on the ground. But I have germinated them without the cold treatment also. Hope this helps..

Flat Rock, NC(Zone 7b)
