If you can guesss what they are you can have them for SASE.

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

The first person to guess what theese are can have them for SASE if they want them. Sorry about the poor quality picture. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with this camera.

Those are Heloconia or Bird of Paradise seeds. I had some before and they didn't grow for me. Hows everything going Hugo?

Kingston, GA(Zone 7b)

Donna is correct on the seeds.

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

Donna,
Things are finally getting back to normal here. The neighborhood is getting cleaned up. We had a clean-up day just the other day. I managed to pick up quite a few pieces of nice lumber to (hopefully) do a raised bed. Did you manage to save you L'Amour (sp?)? How about you? How are things with you?

So who (if anyone) wants these seeds? I don't know how long I've had these. I do know that I've germinated them before because I have a little one and remember giving some away before. CountryBumkin is correct though. Not very high germination rate if I recall correctly. I bought a couple of these grown at Lowe's for $3.00 a piece. I should have bought more. I could kick myself now.

finally see some tiny green specks on her today so I am relieved. Lost 5 cuttings though. don't understand it. So much for sharing!!! They had all grown tiny leaves then just up and died :-( I have 1 left that is ear marked for Padre since he sent me a piece of the Puerto Rician brug. This one has much more growth than the others did. Birds are coming in coming in and it's hard to stay focused on potting plants lol. I saw a Immature Pergerine Falcon on Horn Island Sunday. If it hadn't zipped by me I would have never seen it. It went and land on the beach. I got pretty close to it but still didn't get a great pic

Has anyone claimed the seeds yet? I would love some bird of paradise

Huntington, IN(Zone 5b)

These are Halloween candy corns with the white ends bit off of them...then stepped on!

Kingston, GA(Zone 7b)

I am sorry to have butted in but I thought you might have wanted to know that Donna was correct on the seed ID (trying to be helpful lol). I didn't need the seeds because I have two mature bird of paradise myself. Wonderful plants!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I don't want them.

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

Donna,
As always, I appreciate you sharing your picture. I love falcons. Especially the Peregrine. They just look so sleek and they are quick. If I recall correctly it has to be quick because it eats smaller birds/sparrows right?

I'm sorry to hear about your brugs but I'm glad to hear that you had at least one that made it. I'm sure that one will do okay for you. Who knows, maybe even well enough for you to share with it later. If not just be glad that you have that one for yourself. I know how you are though. You get as much pleasure from sharing as you do from having it for yourself. Thank God for people like you. You've given me tons of plants. (Now if I can only find something you don't actually already have to return the favor). What's you most wanted plant now? Give me an idea of what you're looking for. Maybe Fifth Dimension or Tamibon hibiscus?

Potofgold,
You're nuts! It never fails. I always get some sort of laugh here on DG. I thought they looked like rabbit pellets with a little orange velvet stuck to them.

Shinny,
It looks like the seeds are yours. I'll sen you an email with my info.

CountryBumkin,
Thanks for pointing out that Donna was correct on the ID. What I was saying you were correct on was regarding your comment on "Not very high germination rate if I recall correctly". You nailed the ID right on too though. Sorry about the mix-up and thanks for passing the credit to Donna.

Thank you all for replying.

Hugo I need a mate for my Chocolate vine to make fruits. Read that it had to be 2 seperate vines and the one I have is from Daisy in TX so I'm sure yours will be different. Man it sure is a slow grower. Have to look up the Hibiscus but will probably want them lol. Thanks I just potted up a few I prerooted in water. If they make it you may want some in spring. I have Schizopetalus, Yellow with white/red eye, White with red eye. Snow Queen, and Hot Lips that look almost identicle. flower looks identicle to me. The variegation is different. One is more speckled than variegated.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

BugFreak I just sent you email for seeds :)

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Oh this greeted me on the front porch rail at midnight last night. It is the 6th different snake I have run into in little over a week. I am beginning to get paranoid to go out into the yard. First I saw a King snake and a garter snake, then sunday a week ago after the rain I had a water moccasin strike at me by the bird feeder. I didn't see it. He is history now. Next I saw a glass snake, then a black snake that wouldn't get out of the way. had to give it a nudge with a stick. It was trying to warm up after the cold night we had. and now this ribbon snake last night. Think they are looking for their last meals before they hibernate.

BugFreak you have anothjer email:)

Thanks Kereoke.

Donna,
The chocolate vine is slow but once it gets going there's no stopping it. Especially in our zone. I should be able to divide mine. I had rooted a cutting for you but I thinks it's just too small and dividing mine would give you a headstart. It sounds like you're well on your way with your hibiscus collection. Do you heat your greenhouse in the winter? I also wanted to tell you that I too have gotten many new named hybrids so don't go buying anything I can give you next season. What I like about the tropical hibiscus is that they all pretty much have the same needs so you can have a large collection and not have to learn the specific requirements for each one of them. I'll see if I can divide my Akebia quinata for you in the next day or so and maybe (just maybe) I can make it out to your place sometime soon or I can just let it grow into it's pot here after I divide it until I get it to you

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Thanks Hugo

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Donna,
I promise, my boys have not been anywhere near your place, lol....
Thats just plain freaky that you've spotted so many snakes lately. Is the water still high over there?
I would've either died or needed a new pair of pants if one would have gotten that close to me.
Jen

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

No high water Jen. I think they are just preparing for winter since that good cold snap. The moccasin is the only one that bothers me. That's why I am so jumpy. I never saw it until it struck at me.

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

Woe Donna! That's just a bit too many snakes in such close proximity to you don't you think? Maybe they've figured out that if they hang out by the feeders their meals will come to them. (Hopefully not) I saw one big one around my pots as I was moving them around but i don't know what kind it was. It was black with yellow on it and it looked like it had been eating well. Is the glass snake the same as the glass lizard? If it is I think those little guys are awesome. All they are is lizards with no arms or leggs that lose their tails when threatened. They have some amazing coloration. I would be worried for my dogs if i had these things poping up around my place. Not to worry you but just something to think about. Good luck getting rid of them. As much as I love creepy crawlies, there ARE quite a few snakes that even I won't ignore.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Yep same as Glass Lizard and they are really cool. Moccasin are the only ones I kill. You had a King snake which are the best ones to have. They will eat other snakes. The king snake was probab;y after the garter snake out front and they both took off as soon as they saw me. All of them take off but the moccasin. The garter and ribbon snakes eat my little green sticky frogs as long as I don't catch them in the act. Last fall I heard this squelling nose and turn around to see the little frog going up the side of the house with the little gater snake hanging on lol. he missed that meal

Donna,
That's the one. I love them. Glass snakes are neat. My neighboor's kid found one. A large one. I kept trying to convince him that t it would be much better off if he let it go instead of having it in his pocket all day. I tried to think of all sorts of ways to get this kid to release this poor animal. He wouldn't budge though. I even tried bribery but he wan't interested. T

hey come in all shades of blue don't they? Some of them are almost turqoise.

Looking at your picture of the water moccasin, I would say that someone wanted it DEAD for sure. It looks as if though his head has been snapped off his body. I can't say that I blame you.

And in the picture of he snake eating the frog... I want to know how in the world that snake is "floating" as he eats the frog. Poor little frog. He didn't stand a chance against a levetating snake. He was probably too confused to run when he saw it coming at him.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

LOL Hugo
The snake had the frog partially in its mouth and the frog was trying to get away by climbing up the side of the house. Strong little froggie pulling the snake up with him.

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

lol... Now I understand. You have to give it to that little guy for effort. I have these frogs here too. The neighbors complain about them. I'll never understand why. I think they're neat. Thanks for sharing all of your pictures.

Donna,
Here's your new baby. Just thought you might want to see it. I transplanted/divided it today.

Thumbnail by BugFreak
Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

oh how cool. Mine is a baby compared to it. lol

Navarre (NW FL), FL(Zone 8b)

I'm glad you like it. The cuttings that I had taken SOME time ago still only have one leaf and they look "stuck". They won't grow. I'm about to transplant everything so it might help.

Donna,
Can you re-read my post from;

If you would be so kind...
I'm really curious about your greenhouse.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Ooops
sorry Hugo. Yes I heat it with a propane cooker and an oscillating fan for circulation at night when temps drop. I keep it at a growing temp of 50 degrees minimum. It usually gets very warm during the days and sometimes have to open the door except for the few days that we get a hard freeze..

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow, Donna. I wouldn't mind any of the snakes but the water moccasin. I've never seen one and hope I never do.
