I'm a foliage freak!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Not a bud in sight so it's a good thing I like foliage LOL... This seedling is from Cala, it is a CDW X Bert. It has a cool ripple to it each leaf. None of my other brugs have this. So far no bugs have bothered it and it looks pretty darn good for this time of the year. I'm holding it over because I love the foliage. It had another arm to the plant that has rooted in water for me.

Close up- shot taken with old camera, not the best..

Another shot from a distance. This plant is in the corner of my pool. I can look out and see it from my computer. Ignore the shot- it stinks.

Love the foliage also. It had better be something really good, as I'd hate to see it get tossed. Hope it's yellow!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Did I forget to mention that I'm sending it your way? LOL..... I know you'll get it to bloom before I will.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Great looking leaves. Hope it has a beautiful bloom.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That really is some great looking foliage.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Yes, you forgot to tell me, you stinker! You always got everything to bloom before me, better keep a backup. Thank you Kristi, you are a good friend.

County Roscommon, Ireland(Zone 8a)

Even if it doesn't flower, what a lovely foliage plant.

I love folage too Kristi. I got rid of all of my brug this spring that drop their folage in the heat of summer. I have a Apricot Reise x ? that has leaves like that. They are wonderful. Hoping mine will Y and bloom soon too.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I hope it has a bloom worthy of such great foliage.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Me too. If not, will grow another in the pot with it, that has pretty blooms.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

That is some great looking foilage Kristi. Hope it turns out to be a good one!!

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Yes, great foliage. I too love different foliage. I am growing Snowflake on in the greenhouse just because i love it foliage. Donna

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

I also love foliage. Would be happy with it even if it didn't bloom (although blooms would be nice) :-)

Boy, that's sure nice! I'm so impressed to see leaves that don't have bug bites! What do you use on them?

Adrian, MI(Zone 5b)

I, also, love the different foliage! I only have a couple with different leaves and they really add to the plant. It sure is healthy looking too.

I wish you guys could see it in person. It's so neat. Kaufmann this one is not bothered at all by any type of bugs. I've not sprayed it one time. Actually, I really didn't pay much attention to it until everything else started to putter out. Now you can't miss it. There is a smaller seedling on the other side of it that has had spider mites all summer long and this one didn't get them.
Trunnels- I'd be happy with a bloom too.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I wonder what it is that makes mites love some and leave others alone. We really should be tagging those that are mite resistent and start breeding that in. I just hate mites. So much!!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Only the mites know the reason lol!
Kristi, I am a foliage fan also. Sometimes, I have kept a hybrid only for its foliage.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Kristi -- here's one to keep yours company, although mine has quite a few bug bites...

Gretchen, I'm no expert but that brug looks very healthy to me!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Terrie -- its thriving, but its also full of bug bites and caterpillar holes. I had to remove the bottom leaves, they were so bad. This one is one of my seedlings that's loaded with buds for the first time. Can't wait to see what they look like :)

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm just hoping we don't have a freak freeze before a lot of mine bloom. I noticed this morning that my Pink Beauty dropped two blooms before they were completely opened. Might have been the wind but I don't think it was that strong yesterday or last night.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

I'm with you on that one Terrie! But we're supposed to have temps in the 80-90's for the next ten days, so hopefully my seedlings whose blooms I haven't yet seen will make it. I have to decide whether or not to take cuttings...I don't know about PB bloom drop. Mine is absolutely loaded, but the very first bloom last spring -- a deer knocked it off the plant. I was so disappointed!

Please post some pix when they bloom! Gretchen

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Nice. Hope it does get some color, but if not, the foliage is great and the bloom is still pretty.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thank you, Shirley. I am planning to keep a cutting of her...

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

It's beautiful!

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

I think that white is beautiful!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Gretchen I hope it was my weatherman that lied and not yours. They said a cold front bringing snow to Coloroda is coming our way by Tuesday and is supposed to be in the mid 40's all week and upper 60's to mid 70's

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Datdog, do you collect hosta? We have lots of beautiful foliage to collect.

I am new to brugs but I love the white ones too.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thanks you all!

Donna -- my DH informed me this morning that its supposed to be in the 30's here on Wednesday!!! Way too early for us... I'm going to be running around like a chicken with my head cut off between now and then... I have a lot of cuttings to take......................UGH!!!

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, my gosh, Gretchen! Maybe he was joking you? We are supposed to get down to the 40s at night and you are way south of me!!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Terrie - I just checked online forcasts and its supposed to be 41 which will equate to high 30's here. We are on a creek bottom, and have a little micro-climate here. Always cooler by a few degrees than that of surrounding areas. I am NOT ready for this!!!

Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

What is the lowest temp (before freezing) brugs can take before they look really bad?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

As long as they don't freeze or get frost, they will be okay. The warmer temps in the daytime keep the roots from getting too cold. The problems start when the daytime temps no longer get warm. I've had them get a hard frost on them and lose all the leaves and start growing new ones right away and even bloom. You can see in this picture that the leaves have been frosted, but the blooms still opened nicely.

Hi Shirley! That is bizzare.
