Don, here are the pictures that I promised you. This is the P. Amethystina hybrid. I grew this one from seed a couple of years ago, but mine has never set seed. This one is a really hard one to propagate by cuttings or by layering. There is a very slight fragrance similar to a dandylion.
Passiflora Amethystina Hybrid is Blooming
Clare, that's really pretty.
Thanks, Cala!
Very dark and very pretty,I notice the stems have red running thru there veins.
Like Alata.amd my long fingered caerula, thats sure adds to the beauty of the plant.
You have anything to pollinate it with?
Hi Don! Yes, it is very beautiful. I still have P. alata "Ruby Glow" blooming out there and your P. Lavender Lady and an occasional P. belotti. I'll try pollinating one or more when the rain lets up. It's raining right now and due to rain all week, plus the wind is blowing, but it is strangely warm out!
Edited to fix spelling.

Wow Clare, those are really nice. I love the reflexed petals!
Thanks, Chris! I really like this one too. It didn't bloom all year, but it bloomed this time last year so it must like the cooler weather.
S T U N N I N G !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, Pam:-)
Those colors go together so well, just beautiful Clare.
Thanks Clare, seen on the news you all have had about 3 inches of rain or more, mud slides are happening too,be careful if you go out drivining.
Thanks, Antoinette! It's great to see you posting! I hope you had a great summer and aren't too exhausted by your visitors:-)
Thanks, Don. You are so sweet to me:-) I decided not to drive into Los Angeles this week because of the rain. It just takes three hours to get anywhere because traffic slows down to a crawl in the rain. There are lots of accidents when it rains too. We've had at least three inches here last night. All my plants are flooded. I just hope that the ones in containers will be all right. I had to go around staking trees and bushes which were keeled over this morning.
Just gorgeous!!!!!!! This is going on my wish list for sure now!!!
Thanks, Hanna. I emailed Henk in Denmark about this Passiflora last year. He emailed back that he thought Passiflora Caerulea might be the pollinator. Henk is the one who has this gorgeous site: http://www.hewo.nl/Thumbnails.html This passiflora is an extremly good grower and is threatening to take over everything! Henk has quite a few P. Amethystina hybrid pictures in his hybrid section.
Clare, may I ask where you got this plant from? I would very much like to get one. If you'd like to trade cuttings, I got an Amethystina 'Minas Gerais' I can get cuttings from. I'll try to post that picture too. I have many other Passiflora too so I'm sure I could come up with something you want, I have more different types of them than I can figure out. lol
Mark
Hi Mark, I grew this one from seed that someone in Brazil sent me over two years ago. Mine has never set seed, and I've tried many, many times to get cuttings to take without success. This one is particularly resistant to rooting from cuttings. I've tried at all times of the year with all different methods.
Thanks for your offer, but I'm not arranging any trades right now. It's too time-consuming; shipping is too expensive; and my garden is already jam packed with plants!
Actually, I noticed that "Minas Gerais" looks remarkably similar. It is also a P. Amethystina hybrid.
Clare, he shows a passiflora that is red, with long yellow like threads on it, might you know what the name may be, absolutely delightfull!!! too bad I wasn't able to enlarge those pics.
I'm not versed in these, and oh do I want one of those also, Annie
Hi Annie, I looked for one that is red with yellow threads but couldn't find which one you mean. The names of the passifloras (or of the cross) is right below the thumbnail. Just click on the thumbnail for a larger image. Henk lives in Denmark, I think, and probably has more passifloras available to him than we do. Logee's has a very nice selection if you are interested in purchasing some. Here's a link: http://www.logees.com/store/ I have purchased most of mine from them and have been very happy with my purchases.
Thank you very much, when I would click on a pick it would take me right back to the main page originally, ok, Senior moment, I am In deep love with these flowers as never before, and this is dangerous for my DH's pockebook, Alata Tigerstripes & Ambiqua, oh my oh my, I think this is my new religion!!!!!!!! See what happens when you just happen to be gazing at different forums???? Thank you so much for leading us to that site, unbelievable, Ok Annie, contain yourself, lol.
Annie
Clare, ok, I understand, but should you ever be interested, I have over 100 different types of passiflora on my end.
thanks,
Mark
LOL, Annie. It's easy to get carried away with something so beautiful.
Thanks, Mark. I saved your PM with your email address for future reference.
Beautiful!!!
WOW! Clare I'm so bummed out as mine never bloomed this year. Only 1 of the cuttings I had made it to see the full summer and as soon as I repotted it to bringinside..Our new puppies ate it to a single trunk! it's a good thing these puppies are so cute or I'd have their hides. They just love chewing on any Passie vine and flower. They're so smart, they know somehow to leave the Castort beans, Moonflowers(Datura's) and brugmansia's alone and they love eating Incarnata fruit. It's a darn good thing my Incarnata's are hearty and grow very tall in places so I stillhave plenty of fruit for seed and many vines left that will pop up again next year. I sure wished they lived up to thier "Maypop" name here in Kansas, I have to call them June or July pop's this far North.
Maybe I'll get lucky and this Incense will shoot out a new vine from the chewed up trunk. Cross your finger's.
JD, puppies sure can be mischievous, but they are adorable. I'm sure you will get flowers next year. You were lucky to get this one to root. It has been difficult for me to root this particular one.
