Crossvine flowers, are they beautiful? Unfortunately no scent.

I think they're beautiful... in a sense, more like cute actually. Is it invasive?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

No, this vine is very well behaved and also evergreen. The branches can get quite long, one of mine is 35 feet long on a chain link fence. I love this vine, and the display of floweres in the Spring is amazing.
Nice to hear from you.

Wonder if this would be hardy in zone 6 (Pennsylvania)? It is so awesome.

Hello Buttoneer, I have looked in my books and they say Crossvine is cold hardy, but they don't say to what temperature.
I do know that it can go as low a 10 degrees here and it makes it just fine. I suppose your winters are colder than ours but may be with a little protection it might work. I think that if you love it, it is certainly worth a try. I hope I have helped.
Sincerely, Josephine.

Thanks for your comment about crossvine having no scent. Also no thorns?

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, that is right, no thorns, no insect damage and no disease, quite an accomplishment!!

When we were down in NC last April, I saw flowers that resembled the cross vine but there were more brown than red, with yellow around the edge. I dug one up & it is in a pot in my greenhouse. Hope that is what I have.

I had a crossvine in my backyard before I moved to my new home. It climbed up an old tree and was all over the tree top and gorgeous in bloom. I'm looking for another in the same color to plant at my new home. There are so many colors, but the one in your photo is what I'm looking for.
Dark scarlet on the outside and bright yellow on the inside is what I'd like. Does you know where I can find one? Thanks!
