Bananas still putting out new leaves

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

We've been having nite temps in the high 30's to low 40's for about 2 to 3 weeks, day temps 50's to high 60's,and my ice cream is still putting out new growth, makes you think how long does it take before the ground temps to cool off to the air temps!

Do you leave this guy outside all winter....... ? What other tropicals do you leave out all winter...... ? I'd love to try a few more but don't know which ones will survive our Kansas winters and thanks to RootDoctor my basement is full of Brugs...... I'd love to put out more tropicals next spring/summer can you give me a few good ones for a newbie to try....?

LOL! Sure if you like passifloras, will have plenty come spring!
I just donated 75% of my tropicals to the sedgwick county zoo, they were so huge,I just don't have the facilities to overwinter them anymore, they have a huge jungle/ rainforest exihibit.
If you ever make it down to Wichita,I have lots of things, that might catch your interest.

Could you keep me in mind also for passifloras. Last year someone gave me a incarnata..grew a few feet and then died back in the winter. I figured it was dead...thank goodness I didn't dig there. It came up and when crazy on the east side of my house. I first put a little stick up for it to climb on...a joke it kept going but couldn't quite grab and stay on the bricks with all our winds. The first time the thing bloomed , I thought I was in some tropical paradise. Had all the girls come and see...unusual for our area I guess. Then a found a tiny woodland passiflora while cleaning up the dead plants..it just keeps blooming and making fruit...I doubt if it has time to make seeds before winter. Anyway..long story short...I love these exotic flowers. Thanks again for sharing your photos...Janetlee

Hi Janet,
You bet, will have plenty,I have lots of runners to dig up now, just can't get to them all,if you make it to Wichita, before the first frost, look me up,take as many as you want, have several varieties.

Thanks Don.....I don't know if I will...would you consider postage for them? Also, would these overwinter outside or not? Janet

Hi Janet, these might have made it thru the winter,if they had been planted earlier,so the roots could have gotten astablished, but I think,it would just be too late now,so they must be wintered inside, sure on the postage,or you can wait until spring, either way would be fine.
VS71099,Thats ok,your still welcome to take some plants,I have more than I really need.
