Colocasia "Black magic".. What is this?

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

I have a Colocasia esculenta (Black Magic) in my house and I just noticed two sets of these little shoots coming up. What are they? I've only had this plant for about two months (a noobie with these guys). When I first got it, there were two "plants", each was sending out new leaves independant of the other. I now have 4. Is it common for this plant to multiply so quickly? I water it almost every day--there's always water in the dish it sits in and it gets southern sun. My largest leaf is 24", which is the longest they get? Also, when a new leaf comes out, an older one starts to die. Is this common?

Taking a closer look at the plant, she's put out another set! Wow! In the pic, it's the smallest set right next to the green stems.

I bought one of these recently and split it up into two pots....... It's been replanted for about a week and continues to droop...... It feels moist and it's been under lights....... will it bounce back and start having babies like this one...... or am I not giving it enough of what it needs......?

I find that when splitting a plant, they do better if the leaves are removed down to where the newest leaf will emerge. It doesn't take long for them to fill out again.

I will go home and cut them to start over.......... Thanks

It's amazing how much water this plant drinks. It averages about a quart per day, with one cat occasionally drinking from the large saucer.

Brugie, when I got home last night to cut my leaves.... I already had another one shooting up..... Thanks for the good advice......

You're welcome. This is a pretty easy to grow ear. One of my favorites.
