I have no idea which part is the seed. Anyone know?
Rudbeckia Maxima - Are there seeds?
Osteole, I don't know but if you ever get it figured out...... we really good pics like yours in the database. Looks like you have a good camara. If more people would post their pics, you might not have had to even ask this question. I don't because I don't have a good camera.........yet.
cherish thanks, but my camera is really old. I have to take 5 or 6 pictures just to get a decent one. Plus, I have to use a tripod because the tinest shake will blur the photo.
I agree with your comment about more seed pictures in plant database. They would be very helpful.
Oh well. One can only hope. lol My camera is digital, but it's an older digital and doesn't take good close ups.
Osteole, this is one of my questions. I am saving heads like that and trying them in the spring to find out. On some plants, the seeds are extremely obvious, while others, like yours, are not. This is what I enjoy the most, discovery, learning, finding out, to say nothing of the YIPEEE that might be heard world round next spring!
Hi Osteole,
The seed is the one with the two little points on it...in your picture it's about the
third one over near the top of the picture. It should be heavier than the chaff and easier to pick up with your fingers, with a solid feel to it....does that help?

You can always collect one and cut it in half and keep it moist. Something will eventually sprout out of the thing.
I know where the seeds are on regular coneflowers, but I sometimes leave them whole and just scatter them on the ground. Most times they start sprouting while still in the cone.
Look to see what part it is that is sending out a new plant and you will find the seed. This can be done with any type of flower head you are not sure of. Good luck. Sometimes there are so many parts that appear to be seed.
