Daybreak

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

this is Cala's hybrid in 2002 i believe. it took so long to open, almost a week from the time the emerge off the corolla. the long wait is well worth it.

Daybreak i think is no a hot weather type of brugs. it just kept growing all summer long, lot of Y-ing, but no buds.

Ma Vie Rose that is one beautiful Burg !

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Thank You Elva. i believe u have this one. next Spring be sure to plant it in a shaded area. this one was planted in full sun. it was just actively growing all year long. it only began to bud mid Sept. i will have to move Daybreak to a shadier spot next year myself, in the hope it will perform or bloom in the warmer months.

the flower is huge, fragrance is subtle but very lovely scent. it is the 1st day bloom. accdg to Cala in the Plantsdatabase http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/53701/// bright yellow without hint of gold in color. so far, it has a very lovely yellow color.

Ma Vie...lovely...I see this is one of the ones that you sent me a cutting of ! Thank-you and thank you for posting the photo. I need to go back to the e-mail you sent me with the photos!! That was such a nice thing for you to do, BTW !!!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

u're welcome Margie. Daybreak did bloom early spring this year, i was unable to see bloom at it's peak. the flower after i saw it, was all torn to pieces caused by the winds.

i search high and low, i could not find any nice photo of Daybreak. so i thought to post so others can see the gracefulness and lovely yellow color of Daybreak. Thanks Cala {{{}}}!

It looks beautiful and I love the color. Mine hasn't bloomed so far, but I now know, what I can look forward to next season :) I cut mine back to form a 2 ft. long stickas all the branches was growing wild in all directions as Einsteins hair LOL

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

i hear u Tonny, exactly as u describe it LOL! also similar to Medusa's hair. never know where the branches will led to. this is why, i did a lot of trimming off criss crossing branches. never the less, the more u trimmed, the more it grew, like it got a mind all it's own.... hehehehe.

Another very pretty brug MaVie. Good job!!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Shirley :). i think u will love this one, if u don't have it yet. the colors is so similar to lemon's ripe skin. very lovely yellow. fragrance is very lovely. Cala sent this to me 2 yrs. ago. it did not do anything last year at all in the pot. this year i planted it in the ground and just went wild and crazy. i am anticpating to see a flush in a couple of weeks. it just hate the hot weather i guess.

Thank You Ladies, it is indeed very pretty. the long wait is well worth waiting for its lovely color. the flower in itself is huge. plus the color is very nice shade of lemon yellow. scent this evening is citrucy. i will have to take another photo in the morning to see if there is a color change.

Tiara finally decide to open last Monday. side view

That long wait, as you mentioned on the top of this thread. I understand now what that means. Mine took about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks - I'd have to check the threads to find out for sure. But it was definitely a long wait. The smell of it was so wonderful - like nothing else you'd experience unless you were dreaming. Someone needs to bottle that up.

MaVie beautiful blooms. You must put quite a lot of time and effort toward your brugs. Jenny

Thank you everyone, i deeply appreciate ur kind comments.

i wonder if Daybreak has some characteristic of Jean Pasko? i could remember 3 yrs. ago, JP sure tooks so long to bear flowers and when it did, i sure took it's sweet time to bloom stage. i would not know now, cuz the lunatic ex-neighbor tore it apart to pieces and nothing can be saved out of it. Kyle or Monika, would u have an idea if Daybreak has JP lineage in it?? it would be nice to know and understand a wee bit info on this hybrid.

here is Daybreak this morning, by some miracle we had rain part of the night. ignore the brownish part cuz the strong wind, bruished the edges. residue of raindrops and dirt from the blowing sand is visible. i can not wash off the dirt for fear of doing more damage.

Ma Vie from experience with JP I can say it does have JP genes in it. Same shape, markings on the corolla edge, and bloom characteristics. Too bad it was destroyed. :-(

Wow! The last two pictures reminds of a giant version of Goldtraums shape. Wonder, if this is a sis to Hertzenbrücke, Morgensonne and Mittagssonne. They are - if memory serves me still - Goldtraum kids as well :) Wonder, what the other parent was ... Morgensonne fruits have a velvet surface ... ?

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Kyle :). that helps a lot.

Tonny the bloom from one end to the other is about 8" across. the flower hang straight across from the plant, not downward... sorry do not know the terminology on how to describe it better. hopefully the attached photo can explain it better.

hopefully Cala can come and enlighten us more, after all she is reponsible for this hybrid.

Breathtaking photos, I just love Tiara and mine had buds. She did like the one you had that didn't do so well in a pot - I put her in the ground and within such a short time, she had buds....MaVie, you are so fortunate to have so many blooming at one time, you are a very hard worker, with a real talent for gardening..

Thanks for the compliment Sherry... all kudos belong to Mother Nature and the hybridizer/s. all i did was feed and water them. a few experiment here and there and lots of researched helped along the way.

i guess, the cooler nights and warmer days, triggers those buds to come and grow, which eventually bloom. am just glad it is not late in the season, and i am able to see those lovely blooms.

(Zone 5a)

Oh MaVie your brugs are just too beautiful for words. Tiara's Face, Apricot Moonflower and Golden Lady just took my breath away, I am so jealous :}
