Moonvine question

Is a moonvine a datura or a morning glory vine?
Sorry if this is a dumb question-I just don't know & would like to know.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

My Daturas, white, dbl/triple purple and dbl/triple yellow grow like a bush. Never had a moonvine, but think it vines and climbs up trellis/fence.

CC -- a moon flower vine is in the morning glory family. The flower is similar to a white datura, but the datura is a bush as Hibiscus mentions above.

I have both, and they are lovely... Gretchen

Hibiscus & Gretchen thank you so much for your helpful informartion.
I have one more question-are they as invasive as morning glories?

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

I don't know if the seeds winter over in your zone, but they can get out of control here...

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Moonvine (Ipomoea alba) can easily be confused with moonflower (Datura inoxia) because of the their common names, they both have large white flowers that open up and look their best at night. The vine is a member of the morning glory clan. http://davesgarden.com/pdb/go/893/index.html It isn't invasive here because it blooms so late the seeds don't have much time to ripen. In your zone that might be a different story... If it drops a lot of seeds you may have a lot of unwanted volunteers next year.

Thanks again Gretchen & Poppysue, that's what I was afraid of.
There is so many wild mg seedlings here every year,I am pulling them up all season until frost gets them & next spring the process starts all over again.
I now know this is a plant that,I don't want to grow.

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Hello Christmascactus! I understand your problem with mg seedlings. I have the same problem. I find them EVERYWHERE! LOL

But I am in your zone and I've not had a problem with the moonflower vine seeds being a problem. They normally don't start blooming here until August. I would encourage you to grow the mf vine. You will love it.
