This is suppose to be red pinecone ginger, this little bud thingy has two white flowers coming out it, and when I picked up that tag in the pot to make sure it was red pinecone, I promptly knocked both the little white buds of. touched the pinecone thing, and did a tiny squeeze, water came out of it, and it smelled heavenly kind of like my white butterfly ginger, is this not red pinecone, where do the red pinecone flowers come from out of the ground like this one or on the top of the stems. i'm confused here. this is the first bloom for the red pinecone if that's what it is, and if that;s indeed the red pinecone ginger.
I know it's not real clear, but now that the white buds are gone, it wouldn't do any good to take another picture LOL

ok, what's this
Your plant looks like Zingiber zerunbet. Its bracts can be red or green. Check the National Tropical Botanic Garden web site for images of this plant. One shows both red and green bracts. Web address is: ntbg.org.

Looks like Shampoo Ginger to me....GREAT shampoo/conditioner. Made Paul Mitchell rich!
Whoops, mispelled the plant's name, its supposed to be Zingiber zerumbet. As Alohahoya stated, its also known as the shampoo ginger. I have a number of gingers, but not that one.
lorien4 I have plenty, want to trade, what kinds do you have, do you have the white butterfly ginger?

Kathy_Ann: I have three gingers that can be divided at this time, Alpinia speciosa (shell ginger), Hedychium flavum (cream colored flowers) and Alpinia speciosa (varigated shell ginger).
well, darn, I have two of them for sure, I think I have the flavum too,
thanks though

I have plenty of the white butterfly if any one is interested in a trade. Also a tall pink bloom.
Kathy, I have this same red pine ginger, first they are green and they keep getting little white flowers all over them, then in a couple of weeks they start to turn a bright red. Hope this helps.

Thanks Vi it does help
