If you still need some let me know. I've got some I collected from my Echinacea White Swan this year. I haven't checked the germination, but they look good.

shazbot3 - see posts from Baa and myself at the bottom of this thread regarding germination of the white echinacea seeds.....just so you'll know it's not just you, if you have trouble with them. I'm wondering how the ones I saved will do!

sadiemae, I do still want some. I went and read the posts at the link you gave me. I LOVE a challenge! Now I'm interested to see what kind of success rate I have. LOL.

Terre_, I sure wish I'd asked sooner, too. Looks like I may have to have a truckload of these to get a few good plants going :) BTW, I just got those hostas taken care of yesterday. There was one pack that was labeled as two-don't remember the name right now. But when I opened it up, there was one good sized liner, and then 4 very tiny liners bunched together-looks like I made out like a bandit on that one:)

Sadie, let me now what you're looking for in trade. And thanks!

shazbot, I started white coneflower seeds last winter from a small plant in my front yard, and got nearly 100% germination from one group... first of all I know they were fresh, and secondly the group that did well was in rockwool. I wouldn't advise buying it for white coneflower, I just had some pieces left over from starting brug seeds. Another group started in sterilized potting soil had 50% germination.

Thanks for the info, eileen. Sadie's sending me some seeds, so I'll try the sterilized soil and see how it goes. Where can you buy Rockwool? Does it have to be ordered online, or do you think local garden centers may carry it?

Ashton, IL(Zone 5a)

I got mine off eBay, but Wormsway catalog has it (online or paper version) too. No doubt other places online have it but it is expensive.

Ah, ok. Thanks, eileen. Maybe I'll wait til about Feb. or March to get some to try, then.

Okay this is what I did.

I used peat pellets. Make sure your seed is sitting in the correct position. as if it were a missle the pointed part is the bottom and the flat part is the top. Just press it down in the center of the peat pellet, I could still see part of the seed if I looked down.should be a little lower than flush with the dirt...don't put in too deep. I had approx. 75% germination...noting that germination could be very slow(some were three weeks +, even though the seeds had been refrig. for months) and the ones that didn't make often were thrown out because I could see the soil was getting bacteria. I really enjoyed the plants I grew.
1.Peat pellets or sterile growing medium
2. Fresh seeds
3. Much better germ. if they have been refig.
4. Proper positioning of seed
5. proper depth
6.Light for germination/heat
7. Don't let them completely dry out before watering.
8. Plenty of patience.
Hope this helps!!!!
