Halloween 'dead' wreaths

Merced, CA(Zone 9a)

We try and do a real scary witch house for Halloween. No screaming or blinking lights, but an atmosphere that makes the kids (and the adults) wonder.....gee...is this for real? I do wreaths for every holiday, and came up with a dead wreath for Halloween. When we trim the clematis, I make a wreath (the same day, before the vines dry at all) and leave the leaves on it. As it dries, I try to encourage the leaves to all lie down, but sometimes havoc looks good, too. Then I add all the dead flowers I have been saving all year from all around the yard. Dark dried roses, hydrangea, clevelandii sage pods, anything distinctive, brown or dark. There is an entire list of the plants I have used at www.packrat-pro.com.hallowwreath.htm. Happy haunting!
