Fruit sugar in my feeder

Fruitose has a higher sweet flavor and gives a more controled enegry release. They seem to stay longer and come more often.

How do you use Fruitose? Does it come in a liquid or powder form? And Where do you get it? I may try it next year.

At the health food section at my supermarket , granulated. I use it in bodybuilding because of the controled energy release.

Do you mix it the same as sugar? Same amounts?

Yes, I am putting just a touch more due to the cold factor and less bugs for them to eat. Hopefully they will have the energy to be able to hunt here during the winter.

If fruitose gives them more energy looks they they would need to feed less often. Is fruitose cane sugar instead of beet sugar?

I don't know it is a different process then just white sugar. It isn't the stuff that's in snack food and such. It has a slow and steady release over a longer period of time it works like grape juice, not like a cola. The hummers actually eat bugs for there nurishment, the sugar is for energy to find them and to keep warm.

You know, fruit flies are very easy to raise. You could offer the hummers some if you can find a way to dispense them in the cold.

Well we have fruit and flies. I was thinking maybe put the fruit in a bowl by the feeder, energy and a meal!

Probably bring in butterflies too.
