for new members to introduce yourselves: http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/welcome/ . A great place to say "Hi" and meet members from all over the world.
There is also a Welcoming Forum
Thanks Pam; I remember finding the Welcome Mat by chance, and you spoke up there right away, inviting me to the Canadian Trading forum as well. You are really a great ambassador of DG - thank you on behalf of all newbies!
No problem.......just passing on what people did for me. :) Jagonjune, echoes and I were all hoping that by welcoming newbies we get more people to jump in. Looking at the list of Canadians we probably have around 60-70 paying members.... it would be so nice to get everyone involved in sharing knowledge, tours of their garden and maybe even trading, eh! ;)

Some year we really have to organize a pow wow (not centrally cause that would mean deep in snow since we can only meet when we're not tied to our plants LOL) Maybe in lotus land in the depths of the non gardening season say the end of February - ah I dream.
I'm up for it! Seriously. I'm due for a visit with my dear grandmother in Mill Bay BC, and it would be great to combine the two stops on one trip. I'll keep my ears to the ground....so to speak....
That would be nice... :D
that sounds like a good plan! yumiko is in Nanaimo, we're over here in Vancouver, that would be fun! And rest of our bunch could make it a super trip! E
Vancouver island fur sure. Parksville? I've always wanted to stay in a yurt at Goldstream. All us now prairie types could enjoy lotusland for a few days.
Central? That makes it Winnipeg, Regina somewhere there. Well, we could certainly host those lotus eaters couldn't we. Not so far for the Ont. people to travel. Nice to dream anyway.
Inanda
When we moved from Edmonton to Gatineau in '02, we drove past the meridian marking the east-west centre of Canada - it was just east of Winnipeg. And it was pouring rain, I might add....all day long, from Wawanesa MB to Thunder Bay! But I'm getting off topic....lol Apparently the geographic centre of Canada is at Baker Lake, NT. I'm a north-o-phile, so I'd be into it....any other takers? :-)
In February??????
spklatt, That could be interesting.....
Any other takers???
Ingrid
spklatt, where are you in the Gatineau? My SIL lives in Chelsea. At least I still think it's still called Chelsea, it seemed for awhile there they kept changing the name.
Okay, maybe not in February!
Liz, I'm in Hull, just down the road from Chelsea. Last year, they amalgamated our five cities: Aylmer, Hull, Gatineau, Buckingham and Masson-Angers - now we're all supposed to be called Gatineau. Chelsea escaped this round, and is still Chelsea. It's sooooo pretty - have you ever been for a visit?
There is also an excellent vegetarian restaurant there, called Soup 'Herbe... cute play on words....great food.
Apparently the Joni Mitchell song 'Chelsea Morning' is about Chelsea, Quebec I had always assumed it was the neighbourhood of London, or New York. She was singing a few nights at a cafe in Ottawa called Le Hibou, and staying with a friend in Chelsea (way back in the day of course....lol), and one evening showed up with a song that she had just written that morning, called Chelsea Morning. I heard it on CBC, and they're never wrong... ;-)
Thought it was a neat story. I went straight out and bought the album.
Shannon
OK, as most of my friends know, I am famous for quoting, "anywhere, but not North!" I'd go for Winnipeg, or Thunder Bay...but what say we wait until maybe, March?
Not in a long while Shannon, I grew up in Montreal but have been here forever.
I didn't know that about Chelsea Morning. I too thought it was about London.
I have always called the area The Gatineau. So it's just Gatineau now?
I remember Le Hibou from my days in Ottawa. Nice to know it's still around and still good.
by march I am up to my eyeballs seeding and babysitting little green things but end of february in lotus land would be great and we could bring back little green things without border patrols and oh Bishops for food and granville island market and maybe the island and Sooke Harbour House and now I have to go eat something.....
Lynn, I think your idea is marvelous, but I didn't want to appear selfish living so close. Heck, I could take a bus. :)
Sooke Harbour House..... dreamers
Broke down and took a peak.....I'm in love! http://www.sookeharborhouse.com/ This group was bad enough when it came to plants....I knew if Lynn's site did me in I should never have looked at someplace that had her heading to the kitchen. :S
Oh my, that is a dream. I could only wish...
I had a good chuckle when I looked at the prices of their Romantic getaway package:
http://www.sookeharbourhouse.com/packages.html
I think with their prices I'll stick to ordering from the menu.

Sooke Harbour House Menus and gardens are just too much ...... maybe too much for our collective wallets.
My best feed in Victoria were crabs at The Blue Crab (Coast Hotel)
Great view there, on the edge of the harbour, watching the water taxis and planes and boats and and .....
Inanda longing for her next visit to Victoria
Sounds good to me! Count me in. WestJet always has reliable fares from out here.
Another good wharf-side eatery in Victoria is....the Wharfside Eatery. They have an appetizer called Smoked Salmon Trilogy....mmmmm.......
I peeked too, Pam. I think I can afford the Sooke Harbour House 2005 calendar...
lololololol ;) That would be more in my pocketbook.....the only way I'd eat from there is by starting to set money aside now. Can you camp outside in February in Victoria???

Oh sure, how hardy are you? Good downfilled sleeping bag (one of those one that makes you look like a mummy) and you're set!
I think I might have one of those around here.......DS was in Scouts (needed a good one for those minus 40F winter survival camping trips). :S
That'll do it. You could even "kick the covers off" in Victoria in February!
Yup.....we are of tough hardy stock here!!
lol, I think the cool autumn air has made us "punchy". Have a good one.
Tho Imma thinkin' my portable shower (rubber thingy that you set out in the sun) probably won't work to well out at the cloudy coast .........brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr getting shiveries with that thought here. :S
Lol
