Any suggestions on how to keep big, clueless, young dogs out of my flower beds?! I have a pitbull puppy and a 2 year old great dane. Apollo (dane) is pretty good but we live on a corner lot w/ a 4 foot wrought iron fence. So people walk by and he runs up and down the fence line... right over the climbing roses and other plants I have put in. My shade bed is the worst since it isn't full yet and he just walks right over my baby hostas!!! Willis (the pit) digs up anything I plant as well as runs along the fence line. He prefers to walk INTO my beds to poop and has even chewed down a good deal of my fig tree. As in he chews the thick branches off and consumes them. Putting their own poo in the holes they dig hasn't worked. The water hose gets them out temporarily, but they just do it again. I got the repel spray (not liquid fence, but like it) from Home Depot. It kept Apollo out of my shade bed for about 10 minutes but he just ignored it the first time a person walked by the fence. They just plow down chicken wire, rope, etc. like it isn't even there. I mean they stay out if all is calm, but let a person or dog go by that fence and they lose control. I have tried every form of pepper spray, red pepper etc. as well as mothballs. Nothing works. In fact, Willis licked the Tabasco off my fig tree branches, THEN proceeded to chew on them again. Now I am down to not letting them outside unless I am out with them, which is very annoying. Grrrr! The only thing I have left to try is an electric fence system and put "loops" around my garden areas. Does anyone have any advice on this method- professionally done? DIY? Cost? I used the bark collar for Willis to stop him from barking in his crate and that DID work wonders! I just wish I had gotten the kind with a remote so I could zap him for other things- like getting in my garden! But even then I would be left supervising them the whole time they are out there. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. But please don't do like someone on my garden club site did and reply with a simple "my dog stays out of my garden areas." Great! Mine don't! Sorry, that just irritated me a little! :) Again, any help is appreciated. Oh yeah, I'm really not going to hurt them... just to be clear. I will just continue to scream at them like a crazy woman.
