Too Tall brug

Victoria, BC(Zone 8b)

I've got a seedling from this year, that's 7'4", the same height as my roof on my covered deck. It hasn't Y'd yet, and is very healthy and growing great. I've called a couple of friends, and it's too tall for their GH's. I'd rather not take it inside and let go dormant over the winter.

What would you do, and
what should I do?

I thought mine was tall enough, almost 4' and keep wondering WHEN will it Y

So you have no place to let it go dormant? Some I know lay them on their side. Or you could cut it off and root the top. That way you could make it as short as you want and even do a few of them.

I also have a couple that are extremely tall and haven't set buds yet. I guess I will be doing the same thing.

Linda in Victoria BC: Send it to me, I would love to have it!!! My 'claim to fame' was destroyed in a windy rain storm this week...my own seedling Yed, at about 3 feet, but has buds, so, I figure I'm lucky...

I would measure from the top down to whatever height you want it to be then cut it off and root it in water.

Thanks Everyone,

Liz, will the bottom part, left in the pot, also start growing again, but with side growth. I was hopeing not to cut it, as it would make a great allee tree, and I have several that are flollowing in it's path.

Decisions, decisions.

Mine were planted in the ground because I didn't know all the info about them ..I even have a book I haven't read yet (except look at the pics) You guys will probably laugh I dug them up after cutting off lots of soft and put in water I have put in a big plastic bucket with the holes and fresh soil in bottom (I had to hurry cause temps have dropped quickly) I am shocked at all the roots!!!!! and how long they are so duh...should i just cut them off and put the longest parts in water and repot in fresh clean stuff so I can bring them in the house? They are on the back porch now... going dormant means what ?...no light ...what temp for dormancy... maybe I could put them in the attic of the house? it's huge I am shocked at how many wonderful cuttings I have which I know what to do . They are 4 &5 ft. tall maybe 4 now with the tops off ...do I do anything to the tops thank you!!!! I see here what you said Liz so it looks like I am going to figure this all out tipss ss
