Plants for terrarium

Mobile, AL(Zone 8b)

I am looking for small plants for my Dart frog terrarium. I need small bromeliads, Tillandsia, maidenhair fern, selaginella, orchids or anything else that will do well in high humidity and low light. Please look at my trade list or let me know if there is anything special that I may be able to trade for.

Thanks

Unfortunetly I don't have anything that I can think of that would suit what you're looking for but I planted a pothos and a philodendrium when I kept frogs and it worked out great.

Betty,
You can check out the African Violet & Gesneriads forum posting by Keyring:

Keyring may not have anything now but might in the near future, almost all the gesneriads do well in my terrariums.

The Episcias are very nice and though they get large over time, they do make a nice specimin planting. The sinningia's & chiritas do very well, too...both even bloom.:)
Hope that helps.

Low grow ground covers worked great in our frog/lizard terrarium......here is a link to one of the 'Stepable' sites. The ones listed are for low light 3 to 6 inch growth and high to moderate humidity

That'a a good site Marc..thanks.:)
BTW:

Have you or anyone else ever had mushrooms crop up in your terrariums?

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I had some shell mushrooms grow off of some bark I had in there.....but not from soil or sand.

Me thinks the mushrooms come from spores that were in or on organic matter (soils / bark / twigs....etc) added to the terrarium...encouraged of course by the moisture & humitidy. The frogs would look so cute sitting on a mushroom!

Well, the mushrooms are lil yellow ones and they certainly added a smile to my face and a burst of color too.lol
I haven't added froggies to this terrarium yet but I had a baby lizard show up in there.

All by itself....the lizard just showed up??? Any primordial ooze in there too :-)

LOL your too funny rikerbear, ...primordial ooze??? Well, not intentionally...but my watering methods do leave a lil to be desired...;) ever seen a swap terrarium?
I think the little rascal came in on a plant that was set outside for watering and hitchhiked a ride then found a nice comfy warm spot next to the light. He was a sweetie and kept me entertained until the cat found him.:(

Ah, that's more logical than primordial ooze......I don;t believe in evolution anyway :-)

Perhaps the lil guy was just a gift from the plant goddess..lol;)

Sorry for leading your thread in an "alternate direction" tortisekeeper...we just enjoy cuttin up...

Always good to see our post rikerbear.

If you'd like an episcia email me. I have 'Pink Panther' which may or may not be rooted yet.

How 'bout Peperomia? Wouldn't that work?

Thanks to everyone who replied. Always fun to hear all the stories.
