French Marigolds

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

HELP! I really want to bring in 2 thriving tomato plants, but I cannot seem to get rid of the white flies - have tried everything anyone's suggested. Does anyone have any LIVE French Marigolds to trade? I'd like to try to transplant them into the base of each pot. It's my last hope ~:-( Your assistance would be great appreciated!

Do you think they would survive a little trip? If so, what would you be interested in for trade?

I have NO idea about surviving the trip -- I've only trades daylilies and you have to work pretty hard to kill them!

What are marigolds supposed to do for your maters and white flies?

I read on a thread that whiteflies hate French Marigolds and will stay away if they are planted nearby. Someone else suggested a plant at either end of the mater plant in the garden, so I'm thinking, why not right in the base of the planter. I swear I'm going to outsmart those little buggers if it's the last thing I do - and based on my luck so far, it just may be!

Sequee, it is true marigolds will repel whiteflies....however, if you have these planted indoors as your indicating, you will only move the whiteflies from the tomatos to something else....some other house plant.

Nuts! Maybe Marilgolds and sticky paper?

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I use sticky paper in my plant atrium......the yellow fly paper type. Works well for soil gnats and white flies.
Good luck :-)

I was wondering...!
I know that having marigolds near your maters was a good thing in the garden. Just didn't know why! I've never had a real big pest problem, but when I do have a bug I use Concern. (It's non-toxic)

The marigolds may keep the flies away, but do they make them GO AWAY??

Rikerbear, what is the sticky paper called? Is it the same as for houseflies? I have been looking for some for white flies and really don't know what to ask for at the shops. Thanks , Lou
